We have just come back from a 10 day stay at the hotel Margarita in Zante, ( 19th -29th September) check in at the hotel was very quick. The hotel was very clean, and the staff never stopped from morning til night to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
I also had concerns when reading previous comments on Trip Advisor, although I do usually take these with a pinch of salt as I think peoples expectations are very different.
I read comments about the food, and we found the food to be of a high standard, (my sister in law liked all the meals and she is usually a fussy eater).
When you check in at the hotel you will be given a number for your dining table, which to be honest we really liked this idea, but we did go as a group of four, I can understand why some people wouldn't like it as you don't always want to make small talk with people you don't know, but it did stop you wandering around the dining hall looking for empty tables, however we did go to our table one evening to find someone else was sat there, when we spoke to Margarita she instantly knew which table was free for us to use,and the senior staff on duty spoke to the couple at our table. It was a nice change to know each meal time you knew which was your table.
We went for walks each day ( had to walk off some of the fab food) people would constantly try and get you into their bar for meals and drinks, but as soon as they saw our wrist band they would say " ahh u stay at Margarita, you lucky people, food is excellent there" so it was nice to know that the Margarita reputation for good food is known within its own community, they also grow their own vegetables in the land across the way from the hotel.
We had one of the refurbished rooms which we paid extra for when booking this holiday nearly 12 months earlier. We also took advice from a previous Trip advisor reviewer who said don't automatically pay for your air con as you might not need it, which we didn't, so that was a good tip, another good bit of advice was to take nappy sacks with you for the toilet paper, this was good advice, as it has been years since I have been to Greece and I had forgotten about not putting paper down the loo.
There are two swimming pools one for adults and is a quiet pool, this is a nice pool to just relax around and read a book, but there is a much livelier pool at the other side of the hotel, where there is a snack bar , and the entertainment team, who will ask if you want to join in the activities, but if you dont want to join in, then they wont keep bothering you. Dont worry, for you guys that like your football, there is a hotel next door that shows all the main games!!
The entertainment at night was a little limited, although we did play Bingo most nights which is something we would never do at home, but we were in the holiday spirit and enjoyed it.
I can understand how people are bothered about the noise, there are signs around the hotel warning people that noise will not be tolerated, I was really bothered when I read about all the rowdy teenagers, but to be honest we had three lads staying in the room next door to us and I didn't even know there was three until the morning they were packing to go home, however the day before we left we did hear banging on a door at 5.30 in the morning as I guess it was someone locked out of their room after a very late night out!!!!!
We had a good mixed age group during our stay and they were a really good crowd.
The only negative comments I can make is, the bar in the main hotel closes at 10.00pm each evening as everything changes over to the pool bar for entertainment, but if you wanted to stay in the main lounge then you would have to go over to the pool bar for drinks, and in my opinion there isn't enough "comfy" seating area in the main lounge when the hotel is full.
The wasps can be a problem, but after speaking to Debbie in the bar she informed us that, they are not wasps but honey bees which will not sting as long as we dont keep " wacking them" to be honest we found the barking dog that lives further down the lane more annoying.
We really enjoyed our stay and met some really nice people, people who had been going to the same hotel for 15 & 26 years.
Although we really enjoyed our holiday, I dont think Zante is a place I would go back to, but I would be happy to recommend Margarita Hotel to any of my frineds and family.
We were in rooms 307 and 308 although these rooms were nice you are near the fire escape which is gr...
