Wow, the Tamarix really was special from start to finish. We booked it last year as we got married on the 18th June and wanted to stay somewhere special, and I can confirm it really was, and more. Unfortunately due to issues with the plane we were delayed and didn't arrive at the Tamarix until about 1.30am, however we were still welcomed with a smile and they showed us where breakfast was and what time it was served from 8am to 11.30am (which is really good if you have a late one the night before), they even carried our cases to the room. Once we got to our room we were really impressed with the size and the fact it had its very own living room, and a bathroom/wetroom with jacuzzi bath. The next day we went down to breakfast and were incredibly impressed with the wide array of food available. Over the two weeks we were there, the food was often changed, which is nice if you like to try various foods. There were sausages, bacon (not the traditional english, but nevertheless very tasty), scrambled eggs, fried eggs, omlette, fruit, yoghurt, cereal, ham, cheese, croissants, etc. Something for everyone. The day after we got married Xara (one of the lovely staff) brought us a chocolate crepe each, which was very sweet, but yummy. Once we had breakfast we relaxed round the pool which was really peaceful, however occasionally got quite busy as people tended to leave their towels on the sunbeds, through no fault of the hotel, in fact the hotel actually provided lovely towels at the bar to use, probably to prevent people claiming sunbeds. The bar was really good too, it was in the shade so was nice to escape the boiling hot sun every so often. Myself and my husband spent a few great nights chatting to Dimitris the barman, and enjoyed his lovely cocktails. He really made us feel welcome and we think he is a credit to the hotel. Also Meena the receptionist was wonderful, she really helped us organise various things, such as a coach to take our 40 guests to the Suites of the Gods on the day. One day she also advised us that as we were a honeymoon couple we could stay at their sister hotel Absolute Bliss for two nights. Of course we agreed but we have to admit we thought there would be a catch and we would have to pay extra. But nope, not at all, this is a hotel that really look after you and genuinely want to make you feel special. They even gave us a bottle of wine to take with us for the two nights. We did have to pack our suitecases again however because they advised they would upgrade us to a room with an outdoor jacuzzi on our return, so this wasn't a problem. The other hotel was lovely with a breathtaking view of the Caldera, but as it was in Imerovigli it was very quiet and two nights was just perfect for us. Once we got back we were moved to the new room, which was totally different to the previous and also had two floors and a roof terrace with a jacuzzi. The room was brillant, lots of room and we had a fab view of ancient Thira from the jacuzzi. The only thing the room was missing was a full length mirror so I could check my dress etc on the big day, but no problem was too much trouble and they delivered one from the shop next door to my room. Throughout our two weeks stay we were really made to feel welcome, and the staff even waved me off on the wedding day. I couldn't recommend this hotel enough and will most certainly be returning on a special wedding anniversary. Now were home we really miss our mornings at breakfast with Xara, our cocktails with Dimitris, and just generally seeing the friendly faces of Dimitra, Meena, and Georgia. Thank you so much for making our holiday, wedding and honeymoon, one we will never forget. Gemma and Rich x 209
