“Amazing place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

This site is amazing. If you just rely on tour companies (we were with Thomson) you won't even hear about this place because the mass coaches cannot get here!
You can get most of the way up by bike, quad or small car and then there is a bit of a climb to the top but you're pretty much there before you realise it! The view from the top is of the whole island and the extent of the town of Old Thera on the top is absolutely incredible. It is a fairly well looked after site with plenty of information as you walk around, there is a small fee to enter but it is well worth it.

“Hiking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

Good target to hike up the mountain, visit ancient Thera and come down a path to Perissa and from there by water taxi back to Kamari

“To me it was about the setting and the views :)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

There is not so much left from the buildings ... mostly ruins on this site; but the setting is spectaculor and the views down and around - totally amazing! There were a couple of spots where I could sit and stare into the sea forever! Also nice view of the planes landing on the airport strip.
I hiked up here from Perissa, also a beautiful though a bit sternous walk, visiting a pretty church on the way. There is a van selling refreshments before the site entrance, which was nice.
Not sure if it is a rule, but at the time of my visit, there were no toilets available on site - the security said there was no water, so no toilets! So, be warned :).

“A must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

This refurbished excavation is a must see! Look 3500 years back into time, see how people lived and how little different it is from our time, regarding the basics of life.
