We stayed in Nissia apartments in Sept 2013 as an end of the summer getaway. We booked the apartments based on the great trip advisor reviews & weren't disappointed.
The apartments are typically Greek with whitewash walls, blue shutters & minimalistic but pretty interiors. The pool is fairly small but more than adequate, especially as it's only a 1 min walk across the boardwalk to the beach. Whilst the pool faces directly onto the boardwalk, we never felt overlooked & it retains it's privacy. The rooms are set back making them quiet & peaceful even though you're in the centre of the town.
We booked a standard room but when we arrived were shown to one of the split level junior suites which I was absolutely delighted at!! I'd seen how gorgeous they looked online but we were on a budget so didn't book one specifically - what a bonus!! The hotel does have some rooms with their own jaccuzzi pool but these are undercover so not something you can use if you want to tan at the same time. They looked equally as lovely however.
Dora & Nico who generally run reception for their parents are lovely! They both made us feel welcome & were always on hand to help or provide information and were pleasant, friendly & knowledgeable. We took some of their recommendations for where to eat & what to do and enjoyed every one that we tried. The most spectacular was the Fanari Villas on our trip to Oia - what an amazing sunset & food. I will post a specific review for this separately.
Dora is also a great artist & had sculpted a lovely pair of flip flops on display in reception - we told her she should make them to sell - Dora, if you read this; remember us if you do - we'd buy a pair off you in a second!! :)
Kamari boardwalk is right outside the hotel grounds & is full of a variety of restaurants & bars. You can eat on a budget at one of the set menus or a little more expensive on a la carte. Having said that we didn't have a bad meal all week; the Greek really love their food & it shows!
Alcohol on the island is a little more expensive than other Greek islands - approx 3 euro for half a pint/ 5 Euro a pint and 3 to 4 Euro for a small glass of wine. This does take away the chav factor of some Greek resorts though which may sound a bit snobbish but when you want a nice relaxing getaway in gorgeous surroundings, you don't want it spoiled by drunken idiots at 3am.
The island is GORGEOUS. Take the local bus 1.50 Euro per trip with no limit on distance or hire a quad & get around under your own steam. Santorini is one of the most gorgeous & pretty places I've ever visited.
We had a superb time & would definitely come back. Thank you for making our stay so great!
