Booked this hotel through Thomson, and expected the usual Thomson treatment, reps etc, but to our dismay, we found that over 20 other tour operators were in this hotel, no Thomson reps in the day, just Barceló reps themselves (all German, but friendly and hardworking enough) who took care of the entertainment at night (an absolute JOKE!, and severely aimed at children until 10pm), and the activities in the day (another absolute joke - unless you are German of course!). Totally wasn't worth over the £2000 we spent on it, all inclusive for 2 weeks.

HOWEVER, we couldn't fault the food itself, or the variety, and the all inclusive option regarding drinks and snacks in the day was amazing! Also, the rooms were fab, although ours was a bit of a trek due to the size of the hotel, but this wasn't an issue for us.
The usual 'fights' for sun beds at stupid o'clock in the morning also took place daily. Plus, there are only a few umbrellas around the pool etc, and these are fixed into the ground, so you have to really fight for one of these too! And you really need one - scorching heat - when the clouds disappear.

Fantastic pool, and everything regarding the hotel e.g. rooms, cleanliness, reception staff, restaurant, waiters, waitresses etc were probably why Thomson operated here.

The situation of this hotel however is unfortunate, as the beach directly in front of the hotel is poor (never went to it for a day - which is extremely unlike us), plus at night, to avoid the horrendous entertainment, there's not much to do near by, apart from the usual little bars (very few nice ones), shops, supermarkets etc. Unless you want to have a stroll down the road of course, towards the beach, past lovely unfinished roads, naff buildings, and the odd cockroach!

So, overall, the hotel itself - fab. The location, not so fab. The reps - German - which is difficult when their English isn't the best. The beach - not great (get a day trip to Jandia - fab waves, lovely white sandy beaches), although EXTREMELY busy, and full of naked people! This stretch of beach goes on for miles and miles, and there are miles and miles of people to match!

So, we won't be going back to this hotel or to Fuerteventura for that matter.

Just got back from Barcelo Fuerteventura and would like to stay what an excellent hotel this was, the choice of food was unbelievable, the hotel entertainment team where really good trying to encourage people to take part in daily events like aqua aerobics, rifle shooting etc. We also visited the Thalasso Spa which was 5mins from hotel, we just went into various pools and sauna's,the cost for this was 15 euro's, but you can have lots of other massage's and treatments at a cost.
The surrounding area was nice, plenty of places to go on walks and fish and chipmonks to feed along the coastline, the only down side was the beach it was rather big but man made and sea was very stoney, all in all had a great holiday and can't wait to go back next year.

“Lovely and relaxing hotel”

Barcelo Fuerteventura Thalasso Spa

We stayed at the Barcelo for 2007 New Year and had a fab holiday. The hotel is well run with lovely and safe grounds along with a big pool area. Our room was clean with a great view (most of the rooms either face the sea or the pool) and was a good size.

Food in the hotel was great with show cooking every night and on New Years Eve we had a gala meal including drinks which was excellent. There is plenty of space in the restaurant so there are no porblems with waiting for either a table or for food.

There is entertainment every night which wasn't our thing so we mainly went along to the other bar. As it was their winter there were heaters in the bar which was a good touch.

We didn't go all inclusive which suited us as we don't drink very much. Also a lot of the wine and food only had a discount under all inclusive. You are able to pay at the hotel for about €18 a day if you did want AI so it's worth waiting until you are there to decide.

Stayed here for a week with my wife (both early 30's) from 20 to 27th Jan - was a little hesitant when reading some poor reviews, I need not have worried, hotel was very clean, good sized rooms, plenty of pool chairs, friendly and helpful staff - not a fan of the hot evening buffet but plenty of salad/cold plate options - I would also suggest heading out for some of your meals, just for variety. Hotel/resort pretty much in centre of the island - 10mins from airport. Resort (Caleta) itself is pretty small but big enough for a nice relaxing week. If you've had a bad experience either you're very fussy or extremely unlucky - would definitely return. (check out the spa next door if the clouds come in !!!)

My husband and I went to this hotel with my parents for Christmas 2006. When we first arrived we were suitably impressed and felt you would really have to be picky to find anything wrong... however, but the end of the holiday we felt there were just a few things that weren't quite right.

Hotel is very clean and tidy... just one or two cracked tiles, and two cockroaches in the restaurant (quite a surprise as it looks clean there), and slightly mismatched furniture (some stained/broken). I didn't see the sun beds being washed down (which I have at other hotels) so was a bit disgusted by this.

The food is very nice and caters for even fussy eaters... but make sure you get freshly cooked food (e.g. fried egg or bacon) first as otherwise you stand around waiting for it and the rest of the food on your plate gets cold.

The female receptionist was fantastic... but the male one was rude and down right difficult.

The rep (from First Choice) was very nice and tried to be as helpful as possible but often her hands are tied.

The All Inclusive package worked well, particularly during the day as no need to fuss about money. However my husband was a bit annoyed at the bar not being free after 11pm... particularly as the first day we arrived after 11pm (due to flight delay) and therefore missed out completely on one days free AI. Also the AI stops at 12 noon on the day of departure which again was a problem as we didn't leave until 6.30pm. We noted that it was also cheaper to upgrade from half board to all inclusive at the hotel itself rather than through first choice.

The on site entertainment seemed to do a good job during the day and I overheard some people saying the kids club was great. The evening entertainment varied - if it was the on site entertainment team then it was pretty poor but the external professional entertainers were fantastic so you just had to pick and choose the days you went to the bar after dinner.

On Christmas eve every room received a free bottle of cava which I thought was a nice touch. The Christmas dinner (buffet with carvery) was fantastic.

Don't believe reception if they say you can have a late check out - if the hotel is busy you won't get one, no matter what they promised. If you are "lucky" you get a courtesy room for half an hour which you have to book the day before.

Our neighbours had been to this hotel only a few months earlier than us and were delighted with it but I guess their standards must be different to ours.

The resort itself is incredibly quiet with nothing to see and do in the evenings - unless you want to eat out which we didn't as we were AI.

In summary I would say that it is a good hotel that would suite a lot of people but there is a bit of room for improvement.
