“Very good value for money!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Came here with my kids & it didn't disappoint, ordered drinks as we chose what to eat on the board, shame they didn't have translation for all food, but you can ask. Ordered salad, baby octapus, chorizo, potatoes in mojo & wine. Really enjoyed this meal, & the waiter advised me that i wasn't ordering too much as i hate waste.

“The beating heart of Caleta!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

This serves as a great antidote to the Barceló hotel across the road! It has been there for years and it does what it does to perfection! There is a huge selection of tapas, which can be viewed in the counter-top display or from accurately-translated chalkboards. We have never had a poor one! There daily deals on larger dishes such as paella or couscous. There is a good selection of wine, and during the two happy hours, the value on the house wine and draught beer is particularly good. We went daily during our brief break in Caleta and the service was excellent even at times of great pressure (like Happy Hour!). We saw two different music acts in the evenings, and this added to the jolly atmosphere, which despite the clientele (many British/Irish) feels Spanish (Galician). Unique!

“Tapas to die for!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

We have been visiting El Capitan for many years now. It was one of the first bars ever in Caleta de Fuste, so if you want 'typical Spanish', tapas to die for - & such a wide selection -, 'Peter' the owner, & all the fantastic staff there will be on hand to satisfy all your needs. Busy nights have good entertainment, many Spanish, or if that's not your thing just sit inside & feast yourself on the lovely tapas - you certainly won't get better anywhere! It's easy to find - just opposite Barcelo Hotel. They also have happy hours in the afternoon & evening - 2 for 1 - what more could you want. There is also a regular in there, who will demonstrate how to pour & drink a cidre (cider), that is the original cider that has no 'fizz'! Interesting! Try it you'll love it!

“Extremely Bland”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

Our friends who regularly visit the area told us that this restaurant was the best in the area and a must visit place. Of course me and my boyfriend were really looking forward to eating here. We visited on a Sunday night, we got a seat outside and listened to the live singer who was playing a mix of rock and roll and Irish music. The restaurant itself had a great atmosphere very authentic and friendly welcoming staff, the music was great and we were expecting the same from our food. We went inside the restaurant to order our 6 tapas, we chose mussels, potato croquets, garlic mushrooms, spicy Spanish chicken, olives and bread. When our plates of food arrived we couldn't wait to get stuck into them but it soon became apparent that every thing we had ordered was totally tasteless, completely bland. The mussels were disgusting they hadn't been cleaned and had not one bit of seasoning on them, the mushrooms had no garlic, the chicken had no spice and the olives were off!. We have to say we were extremely disappointed with this place it amazes me that a restaurant can sell food to people that hasn't even been seasoned with salt and pepper surely every chef in the world knows how to do basic seasoning?
It is shame because it is a lovely restaurant, great staff, but the food is such a let down and when we return next year we will be giving El Capitan a wide berth.
