“Great budget place! ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2013

Stayed in December...Great budget place to stay in. Basic, but very clean and quiet! helpful reception stuff. Would recommend if you are looking for a budget place and renting a car, otherwise it's quite a long walk to local amenities.

Booked through Travel republic who called it "Castillo Beach Park". We payed the princely sum of £12GBP and for the money it is hard to beat. Better maintained than some I have stayed in, our room opened directly out onto the pool. Quiet area away from the centre line of the approach into the airport (again better than some) and a 15min stroll into town.
Negatives: Reception could have been more welcoming and its a bit unlit at night making it hard to find your way around safely. Bring a torch. Also, although we had absolutely no problems with security, I would imagine if someone was looking for accommodation to target for theft this would be high on their list, as it has no perimitter protection and as I have said is gloomy and quiet at night. Once again I must state that we had no problems at all and would definitely book here again

Having read the good reviews I was initially pleased on arrival to be told we had been upgraded for free. We (two ladies) were then given a bungalow with a double bed and an appalling view of an overgrown carpark. Upon requesting single beds, downgraded to 'basic' apartment, not been refurbished for about 30 years, tile grouting black, lights not all working, only two rings in kitchen and facing a wall 6 foot away. Only two choices, basic with single beds or upgraded with a double. We asked to be moved back to upgraded (one of us to sleep on sofa), wanted to charge us, said no. Receptionists rude, got the impression they were fed up with complaints. Went in early November, all poolside bars closed and a lot of local restaurants closed for winter. Not great for the couple next door who paid half board! They spent a day on phone with their travel agent (as did others) trying to sort the mess. Met lots of English people disgusted with standard of basic apartment, not happy with reception attitude. If you get an upgraded apartment next to the pool in the summer with facilities open, this would be acceptable and accounts for the good reviews on this site.. Never left a review before so that shows how horrified I was. It is cheap of course but the previous good reviews gave a false impression. Anyone with bad hips, knees, difficulty walking, beware - need to walk a distance to get fed in winter months! This resort is very tired and looks rundown. Only had one change of towels all week, towels threadbare with holes in.

Room Tip: Bungalows near pools have best views. You need the upgraded bungalows (only have double beds). Summ...

We stayed at the Castillo Beach Club for a week courtesy of an accommodation voucher we received from Interval International. We had a one bedroom apartment in the "Lake" section (one of four separate sections, each with their own pool) overlooking the pool. Our apartment was clean and well maintained and contained everything required although a bit below the latest standards for space, furniture, fixtures and fittings (eg no air conditioning, old style TV with small screen, no lighting over the kitchen sink, oven and food preparation area). However, everything worked and the patio furniture was nearly new. There was plenty of space and storage space for two adults but it would have been cramped with two more adults or children.

Castillo Beach Club is about a mile from the centre of the Caleta de Fuste resort and is a good base for exploring Fuerteventura by car (all the roads, even the minor ones, are excellent).

best bits- short transfer from airport, lovely beach in front of resort, relaxing holiday, friendly staff, nice weather
hotel- constantly busy reception and long wait to be seen. This is not an hotel as such but a resort which is spread over a huge area and even across the road. Several pools around the resort, all very spread out and in need of maintenance, more parasols needed (as mentioned by other guests), very flat area although i would say not suitable for those unable to walk a good distance as too spread out. Shockingly small entertainment area and nothing that would interest adults- very family orientated however (as long as you feel safe watching this right by the poolside, where little ones can't really run around).
Rooms- bungalow style, very basic but seemed clean. Most patio's in block 3000 have no sun if you like relaxing privately, too many huge trees covering these. Main issue is the huge walk to restaurant from block 3000- why have 1 restaurant (the other one overlooking beach you have to pay for) in such a huge complex?!. we paid a fortune of 240 euros for the week (on top of the pricey package deal to start with) to upgrade to block 5000 where the newest refurbed rooms are with sea view and jacuzzi (only some have jacuzzi). This was because my husband has walking difficulties and would have collapsed by the time we got to the restaurant from block 3000- staff advised no other rooms available (in october) and therefore we had no choice but to upgrade! We stayed in room 5029- stunning room, very modern, comfy beds and lovely jacuzzi with great sea view, a 1 min walk to pool and the one and only restaurant- downside- why is the lighting so sparce? pratically showered in the dark and unable to see to even put make up on!! Also do not book this room if you like a private balcony- every one walking on prom in front of room looking in and pointing at us in jacuzzi!! some noise of the nearby entertainment could be heared at night but not on until late (didn't sound very impressive so we didnt bother going to this). This room had 2 flat screen TV's next to each other- what a waste!
food- we went all inclusive- positives- good breakfast and nice modern restaurant. Serve yourself drink machines were good and staff very polite. Negatives- always very crowded, food luke warm and does not vary much at all. Had much better variety in other 4* that we have been to. tip- have every meal as soon as restaurant opens as it is easier to get table! drinks at entertainment bar serve good choice but cocktails from machine are warm.
area- landtrain stops outside hotel and is very chaep to get around but there is not much to see and what there is is very spread out. Some areas look quite run down and not many nice restaurants around.
conclusion- there are much better 4* hotels around where the food is of better quality as are the 'basic' rooms and pool areas etc. Would i come back to the area? no, it was ok for a relaxing break (once we moved rooms) but there is nothing much there. We travelled without our children age 8yrs and 17yrs on this occassion and if this had been our only holiday this year we would have been greatly disapointed. Lanzarote and Gran canaria are far nicer.

So when we booked this through Interval International, we were under the impression that we were staying at the Barcelo resort of the same name (my fault, not theirs!) and when we turned up at the wrong check in they were very snobby about it! This made us think that the 'correct' resort was going to be very down market and first appearances were not reassuring as all the security fences etc could do with some tlc. The actual resort (we stayed in 'LAKE') is more than adequate, and as others have said, the kitchen possibly has more features than ours at home does. The cottages were comfy for 2 of us plus one child, more would have been a squeeze. The only downside to our visit in November was that some of the facilities were not open, or open for shorter hours than advertised, as it was very much off season.

We used the basketball courts and pool, but did not have time to visit the gym or use the tennis courts. It would have helped if equipment was available to hire.

Caleta de Fuste itself is a purpose built holiday 'town' and so lacks character, and the area is a little dull, but there is excellent transport to other towns/villages with more character or better scenery and as it is in the middle of the island, everything is within easy reach for a day out.

Having just got back from staying at the Castillo Beach Club (LAKE) I am wondering if I was in the same resort as some of your other reviewees.
I was very disappointed with the whole resort, bulgalows very average and in need of an upgrade, although one couple we met said that it had all been re-furbished, certainly not mine. Kithchen had good cooking facilities with oven and microwave, but no instruction books. No equipment to cook in or with. Pool bar closed. Pool unheated, again another visitor said it should have been heated 4 years ago. 2 burglaries. General feeling amongst other guests the same as mine a ghost town with no appeal. I for one will certainly not go there again.
