“A step back in history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

A great attraction to have at this very special place in the heart of the Southern Alps. The movie takes you on a trip from the first Maoris to now. The items on offer are great value and the cafe was a pleasant surprise this far out of a major centre.

“A very interesting Centre Honoring Sir Hillary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

The Center is in the Hermitage Hotel. The film is interesting. Items belonging to Sir Hillary and the photos of him were interesting to see. It is worth seeing if you enjoy the mountains and/or history.

“Not worth a 55km detour off the road”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

We had previously thought about taking this road to see the museum, as highlighted from the road and really glad we did not make the effort. We visited the museum whilst staying at the Hermitage and it was certainly an interesting distraction and occupies some mooching time. The actual museum is free, but there is a payment to see the films. Having seen Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Sherpa's museums in Nepal, we were somewhat biased as the museums in Nepal are AMAZING!!!! Absolutely full of artefacts and history about their ascent together. Sir Edmund was a truly amazing man, but this museum was superficial. Sorry! I did love the history about the Hermitage Hotel though!

“Very interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

Make sure you pay the money for the explorer pass. The movies are very interesting. We were only able to see 3 of the 6, but were not disappointed. There is also a demo of the planetarium screens ability that if you ask the guy he'll put it on between movies. Great effects!!!

“Original sources.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

If you're at Mt. Cook, don't miss Hillary. See all the movies, buy the books and read them, and pore over all the artifacts in the museum.
