“Surroundings to die for...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2014

We drove up to Mt Cook and took the Motel under the Hermitage Hotel package for families. It included the Explorer Pass as well which enabled us to enter the movie and museum area for free. Continental Breakfast was also included. The motel is nothing to shout about but the views were magnificent! It snowed on our 2nd night there and it was sooooo beautiful with fresh snow in the surrounding areas. The service all around NZ is always friendly and excellent. We just loved our experience and time in Mt Cook and would stay there in a heartbeat again anytime.

My only recommendation is that you don't segment the breakfast to 'Continental' and 'Full Cooked Bfast'. Make it the same across the board. We were there during winter and we could count the tables with both hands. Saw a lot of food wasted as well.

Dear Resort family guy.
Thank you for taking time to post your comments on trip advisor. Com. Delighted to see you enjoyed your stay here at the Hermitage hotel and throughout New Zealand. Even though we have great outdoor activates I am glad you also were able to experience one of our indoor activities, the museum and selection of movies.
We will definitely take your comments on breakfast on board.
Hopefully will see you back on the Cook in the future.

Nice resort with fabulous view.

Stayed in a Mt Cook room and though it is small, the views are unparalleled. There is a binoculars provided in the room but it dont seem to be working well.

A pity that we reached the resort late and have to leave early, hence, we did not get to enjoy the facilities and activities of the resort.

The pricing of the resort room was on the high side, given that there is few competitors in the vicinity.

Dear trykaki.
Thank you for your feedback from your recent stay with us at the Hermitage Mount Cook. Shame that you were not able to spend much time at the hotel and get the full experience, hopefully there is a chance in the future.
I will check the in room binoculars, but they do know that they need to be adjusted a little to suit each user.
Thanks again and have a great day

We stayed here for two nights in a chalet which contained a double and two single beds. The room was cosy but comfortable, with a small kitchen and bathroom. The view from our chalet was what made our stay so special though. The views of Mount Cook and the surrounding area are absolutely stunning- words can't do it justice! I couldn't stop looking outside! Unfortunately, the weather was unusually bad, with severe weather warnings for our full day at Mount Cook village, but it was nice being in the chalet in the pouring rain and gale force winds! We walked up to the hotel each morning to have our buffet breakfast, which was quite nice. We couldn't justify spending that much money to eat dinner in the hotel, so ate elsewhere in the village. Very glad we stayed in the chalets and not the hotel. Hope to stay again one day!

Dear Ladybugssydney.
Sorry unfortunately the weather does not always go the way we want but I’m glad that it was clear enough for you to have a great view of the mountains and surround areas.
We offer the guests a range of accommodation to suit many markets, choosing the chalets was a great option as you said cosy and comfortable, with its facilities and only a small walk up to the hotel. It’s very convenient.
Thanks again for you feedback

Hotel rooms have been upgraded since our visit 2 years ago. It's. A great improvement . Rooms were small but well appointed and clean and comfortable. Would have preferred fresh milk in room fridge rather than small pots do UHF milk. Complimentary continental breakfast was good with large selection of cereals and fresh fruit
Front staff desk very helpful and had a welcoming smile
Overall a great nights stay

The rooms we had have an awesome view towards snowy mountains.
I could see using binocular provided how the snow transform into water.
But other than that, the room itself need refurbished. Cleanliness slightly below average.
Dinner at panorama room was delicious and quite comforting, since the rain never stopped a single moment during our time there.

Stayed at the Hermitage for 2 nights last weekend. The hotel itself was quite nice, clean and a good size room (we had a premium room which they offered to us at an upgrade cost of $30/night). Unfortunately when we arrived we found out that the planetarium was not working (awaiting a part to be fixed/replaced) and with the days filled with cloud cover, there was little else to do. We had pre-booked the stargazing tour which did not proceed, so a refund of the tour was confirmed.

Overall i would stay at this hotel again for the location, however it can be hit & miss if there are weather issues, and you go solely for the purpose of visting the dark sky reserve.
