“Best view ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

From the moment we arrived I knew this place would be special. The best view from the top floor room that we had for 3 nights. The hotel is itself was well presented and the staff always helpful and friendly. Will be going back again in the near future.

Room Tip: Spend the extra and stay in the new wing on the top floor.

Nothing prepared me for waking up the following morning.
The views were simply stunning.
The mountains were covered in snow.
The place to getaway and forget everything and relax.
A great place to stay to visit the glaciers and go on long walks.

I had visited this hotel previously whilst traveling with a tour but we never stayed here. I just couldn't believe our luck to be staying in this wonderful setting. Our room was very comfortable and we had an uninterrupted view of Mount Cook. I found it difficult to take my eyes off this inspiring mountain. Just a wonderful place. Thank you.

Room Tip: Most rooms have good views but there a few that don't. Make sure you ask for a mountain view

Definitely worth staying just for the great views while eating breakfast. Check-in was easy and service was pretty good. I liked the decor with lots of dark wood gave it a very distinct feel. My wife says it smells a lot like the science wing of her university but I didn't find that at all. The superior room we stayed in was clean and pleasant though it was weird having two double beds. TV was standard fare for New Zealand with 3 sky channels - Sport, Movies and Japanese. Breakfast was great with a wide selection of food including rice and tofu for the Asian visitors.
The main problem with the hermitage is that for its price its short on facilities - no room service and limited and very expensive places to eat.

we had a very great stay in Hermitage Hotel (Chalet for family of 3 persons) in Feb. 2013. Very nice views (sunset view of MT Cook), very nice dining in The Panorama Room, very convenient to the fantastic activity of Galcier Exploerers.
We hope we could go there again in the future.
Highly recommended.

The Hermitage Hotel is amazing. The hotel itself does speak of a ski lodge with open passages, the rooms are nice and large with beautiful views and comfy beds. The bathroom is nice with good water pressure and enough counter space for two. Wifi is $5 and hour or $15 for the day -- we didn't use parking. Complimentary binoculars to use during your stay are a nice touch. hair dryer and iron and ironing board are her too. (Room 714)

Views are amazing from anywhere and the wine list/bar service was great. The Panarama Restaurant was some of the best food I'd eaten. Minibar prices are not overly high.

I hope this review is in the right place as we stayed in one of the motel units attached to the Hermitage Hotel.
This was our 1st motel stop on our NZ holiday and made a very nice start. You have to check in at the main hotel reception and isn't immediately obvious where to park to do this. We parked down the hill and had a little walk but as the sun was shining this wasn't an issue. If you want to get nearer you should go around the back of the main building and park there.
Motel unit was clean and reasonably spacious and had a nice little seating area outside from where you could see Aoraki in all its glory. We were pleasantly surprised to find the a continental breakfast was included with our motel stay and very good it was too.
We didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening as we'd brought our own grub as insurance against lack of choice.
The whole set up has a quality feel to it and the associated gift shop had a good choice and didn't take advantage of the isolation of the location as its prices were in line with other shops we visited.
A great place to stay in a superb location.
