On reading the reports on this site I'm begining to think that perhaps we didn't stay at the same hotel!!!
Our tour bus was diverted to this hotel because our proposed hotel in Christchurch was not available due to the earthquake.
We had requested twin beds...allocated a room with one double and a single. The single bed was under the window, above the kitchen.. cooking smells wafting up- no bedside table or light. Very shabby bed covers on both beds that looked as if they needed a good clean. Sloping ceiling they you kept hitting your head on
Went down to the reception to try and get allocated a different room...greeted by Ann (Owner) with a take it or leave it attitude told all rooms were the same - not a sorry, just very blunt. Decided to wash my hair...soaking wet hair- couldn't find a hair drier...sent a reluctant hubby down to the dreaded Ann to ask for a hair drier...he returned with Ann in tow....who insisted that the hair drier was hanging on the hook next to the bed! or no it wasn't....Ann's reply ...well it was this morning! and prceeded to hunt around the room looking for it making us feel very uncomfortable as if we had secreeted it away some where !!! eventually decided to go and get another...hair was nearly dry by now !
We had evening meal...greeted by the rather obnoxious husband Mark clad in sweaty black shirt and Shorts !!! who then proceeded shout out the 'orders' regarding the dinner, as if we were staying in a rather low grade holiday camp.
I got the impression that the owners were making a real killing due to the Earthquake, I think the hotel would have been empty at this time of the year other wise
I can honestly say this was the worse nights stay of our whole NZ tour.
