“Pleasant, clean accomodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Good value - and with a much nicer view, location and room than many other hostels I have stayed at. It is next to the store and across the road from the main bar. The staff were friendly and there were no issues at all.

This hostel is very nice - well maintained, well equipped and very clean. Location wise it's perfect for the hiking trails of Arthurs pass and for the local store and restaurant.

Only a bit of an obnoxious encounter with the owner let this place down - a simple question over getting the heat on in the room (it was pretty cold!) lead to a disinterested and condescending response which kind of soured things. The other staff were ok though so this may have been a one off.

Stayed here for one night when tramping in the area. Newish rooms, modern, underfloor heating - I'm a cold fish and had to open the window at night because I was too hot! Great kitchen and dining facilities and a lounge upstairs. Real fire would have been welcome but guess for the money it was a pretty good deal and you can't expect everything! Showers and toilets were spotless. Guy running the place was very friendly. Would stay there again.

We rented a cottage for a night on the drive through Arthur's Pass. It was freezing and since we made reservations they had the log fire going for us. The rooms were comfortable and the lodge had a cozy feel. If you have several people this is a great option for a night or two.

As the hostel was fully booked, we had a room in a cottage. Well what to say, I could live there for weeks: huge lounge with log fire, spacious room, large and cosy bed, 2 large showers, 2 toilets. Great and well equipped kitchens, lovely staff, very good locations.

The only drawback the trains running at night as they may disturb you. Bring earplugs and problem solved.

Room Tip: book a double in the cottage if you are a couple!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

We stayed here for our final night and what a night to finish on. Although it is a hostel we had a cottage which has everything and is all yours.

What made the stay that extra special was the service we received. We were having trouble booking our last night. We needed a stop between Franz Josef and Christchurch and we were finding places either fully booked, out of our price range or plain rock bottom. So we decided to spend a tad more money and go for this. At first we were told that the 6 sleep cottage we chose was booked but they offered us the 8 bed cottage for the same price. Jackpot.

As for the cottage itself, well I could live there everyday. OK it might need slight updating but it's perfectly acceptable. We were first greeted by warmth, as the fire was already burning away, and that just made the night. Plenty of equipment and although no TV we didn't miss it. It was fun enough all around the fire playing games/chatting. Also there was no fighting for showers and toilets. Our 8 sleep cottage had 1 seperate toilet, 1 toilet shower combined and a seperate shower. 2 double bedrooms and a 4 sleep room, a single bed and a double bed bunk (with a single above).

This was our favorite spot to stay during our week of travel in New Zealand. We loved the cozy wood stove and country surroundings. Each couple had their own individual room that locked. There were two showers and toilets. The facility was well equipped and in a great location. I would recommend making the trek from Greymouth to Christchurch with plans to stay in Arthurs Pass. Great price, too!!

Room Tip: A Godsend for the travelers that had not planned ahead and needed petrol to make it to Christchurch...
