“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2014

I expected better from a "3 star hotel". Hotel interior is very old, and rooms are not satisfactory for a 3 star hotel. Beds are old, bathroom also and ventilation inside it isn't really good. TV is really small, only 8-9 chanells. Hotel staff wasn't always friendly, and the odd thing is that you have to sit in the restaurant on the same place (table) for the whole staying with the people you met for the forst time...so meals weren't private at all. Also, you have to pay for using the internet (wifi), gym, hotel parking and many other things (so they are not included in the price). During the dinner, you have to pay for the water or any other drink, even though you can drink water in the hotel. Of the positive things, I can say that food was good and plentifull, and rooms were kept clean each day by the staff. Alltogether, I expected much much more for this price, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to go in this hotel because you pay to much for what you get.

PRO:

1.) Magnificent location, smack on the beach and conveniently close to the center of the town with its promenade, restaurants and bars. Everything is within easy walking distance
2.) Service is solid - the staff is friendly and helpful enough but even they can't do wonders with the hotel facilities being what they are
3.) The A/C is functional
4.) View from the rooms facing West (to the sea) is magnificent

CONTRA:

1.) The hotel is run-down and facilities are in some cases literally falling apart. Bathroom, while kept clean on the surface, stinks due to old and moldy pipes so any length of time you have to spend in the bathroom is pure torture of the masochism type.
2.) Food: plenty of it - both for breakfast and dinner, but it's virtually the same menu day for day. Saying that the menu is of low imagination would imply that there is actually some imagination to it.
3.) Wi-Fi. Don't bother, it works only in the time of day when everybody else is on the beach. Otherwise, the connection is clogged and useless.

The hotel's greatest perk is its location, with the friendly staff also helping to up the ratings a bit. But otherwise, it's not a four star hotel no way, nohow. I heard that the new owners plan to give it a complete overhaul type of refurbishment by 2016 at the latest, but that remains to be seen.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms facing to the west (view to the sea). Most of those have a large balcony as well.

Maybe one of the most outdated hotels I’ve ever stayed in, all furniture and facilities were worn down, they have definitely gotten the most out of the pictures because the actual room looked nothing like those. Generally the hotel is in dire need of a complete renovation. The breakfast was very poor as well the one morning we decided to eat at the hotel. Very tempted to give this hotel the lowest possible rating but they get 2 points due to the friendly people working at the hotel and the great location very close to the beach in Podgora.

Room Tip: Get another hotel.

Hotel was really nice, rooms were basic as are many 2 and 3 * hotels in Croatia and really close to the beach just a lift ride down to the promenade and the beach. The hotel is set in a really beautiful little fishing village which is quieter than some more larger towns but still has plenty of water sports and excursions on offer would definitely recommend a trip out on one of the fishing boats for the day where you get to see some of the beautiful islands and taste some of the freshly caught fish barbecued on the boat. The hotel staff and local people are so friendly and really made our stay perfect. Croatia is absolutely beautiful and would definitely recommend hope to go back next year for our third visit.

We stayed here in May to celebrate our 45th wedding Anniversary. We spent our Honeymoon in 1969 at the hotel next door, Hotel Meditteran, and have been back every 10 years to The Minerva. The food is not very palatable and cold if you come to dinner after 7.30pm. No fresh vegetables are served and out of 14 nights the soup was only home made possibly 3 times, the rest was all instant. The Hotel has not moved on from pre war days when run in an institutional manner. The rooms all need up dating and the exterior needs a good paint.
Having said all this the position on one of the most beautiful coastlines makes most things OK, but if this Hotel wants to attract the number of people that it did in the 60's, 70's and 80's it has to make some improvements, especially if they want to charge such a lot to stay there.
We will be back in 5 years but sadly not to The Minerva.

Room Tip: If you can cope with the ordinary, dated rooms ask for a sea view at the front.
