4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2011

Visited the hotel last year and I suppose a judge of any hotel is as to whether you would go back or not. Well we did. Standard was pretty much the same, hotel was spotlessly clean , service was pretty good in the bars and restaurants. Check in and check out was swift and easy. Pool is fantastic. Hotel right on the beach and enjoyed many walks along the sea shore. Bars outside the hotel seemed livelier than last year with more entertainment. A great way to start if your a first time naturist.

Have just returned from hotel following our first, but probably not our last, naturist experience. Just a few general comments.
Transport to hotel : following advice off TA we rented a car. We used DoYouSpain but I would not recommend them only because they like some others charge fuel on a full return empty basis. It is useful to have a car at VPC but you are unlikely to do many miles. We were charged €72 for a full tank in a Yaris and only used a quarter - this makes car hire ( from Almeria airport) more expensive than it seems. Choose a firm that do full return full for best value. We are going again in August and have paid €109 for a week on this basis.
Food: we found the breakfast quite satisfactory. The comments about the sparrows are crazy - they are around and you can't leave your table but this is only if you want to eat outside and they are not the hotels fault. We only stayed B&B so cannot personally comment on lunch and evening meal but people we met out there spoke well of the food.
Local bars etc : Staying B&B we ate in local restaurants. We found Garrucha very expensive and not brilliant, Mojacar Pueblo picturesque and better value but the very local restaurants very good value if not exactly gourmet standard. Frankies bar is all with chips but bottle of wine €6 and steak for same price. Blue parrot slightly more expensive but better standard - both places pretty typical English owned Spanish restaurants.
Hotel : does what It says on tin ! Good pool area, relaxed atmosphere, nice sun terrace, nice bar and lounge, excellent location bedrooms adequate. Not top 4 star but overall very good. Slight downside was I found most staff generally unfriendly !
Overall : was very satisfied and pleased with stay - relaxed atmosphere where being naturist quickly seems totally natural. Absolutely no sexual undertones with fellow guests being very friendly - Brits in minority though ! We met no other people who were there for first time, ie a lot of return guests which I can totally understand and of whose ranks I shall join in August and no doubt on occasions after that.

Room Tip: Would recommend poolside rooms

we spent 2 nights there mainly to experience a naturist setting. It was awesome. Beautiful surrounding, great gardens, fabulous pool. good size room, clean, nice balcony. Very quiet . However we were fortunate to have booked a Junior Suite as it had a kitchenette.. This allowed us to cook our own meals as the food in the Resort is mostly atrocious and the so called restaurant is in fact a barn like canteen.Luckily there are small restaurants outside the complex and specially great supermarkets . Otherwise I would recommend the experience at the Vera Playa Hotel Club.

Room Tip: room with a kitchenette is a must .

We must have checked in to the wrong hotel having read some of the previous contributions! If you read some previous reports from us you may gain an understanding that we are not easily pleased. The Vera Playa hotel is brilliant, the food (contrary to what others say) is outstanding, the variety is very extensive at every sitting and most fish and meat is cooked to order before your eyes. The service staff are very efficient and friendly, and regarding the sparrows, this is not a problem unless you leave your breakfast on the table unaccompanied. Overall, the hotel has a great relaxed atmosphere and guests from all nations are friendly and everyone makes an effort to chat to each other. Of course, you have the odd weirdo (more often than not a single man) perving around the pool, but naturist venues will always be an attraction to these sad individuals. The hotel room, reception and pool area are very clean and well maintained, beds are good quality, however the hotel could do with a little cosmetic update in some areas but this can be understandable in the current economic climate. We were surprised to meet couples who had paid as much as a £1000.00 more for a two week stay booking through Penge Travel, we booked on-line with Travel Republic and got a great deal (we did call Penge to see if they could offer a comparable deal but they wouldn’t move on their brochure prices). The only negative we found was the hotels evening entertainment; this is chronic unless you have children! English guests are certainly in the minority and little attempt is made by the entertainment staff to accommodate the English language, however when it is attempted it is incomprehendable. We only walked down to the beach once because we were happy to stay around the excellent pool all day where drink and food is 'on tap' all day, but the beach is clean although a bit shingly on the feet. The only reason why we won't return next year is because of the evening entertainment that focused on about six children until midnight totally ignoring and insulting the majority adult guests. There is little alternative entertainment outside of the hotel other than a cafe' like English bar (Frankies), a gay bar and swingers club. After midnight the hotel's disco opens but we only stayed until 1.30AM whereupon it remained quiet and lacked atmosphere (no DJ just piped music). Overall we had a brilliant holiday at the Vera Playa Club and would recommend it to others. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you want any more specific information. Finally, a message to the hotel management, consider increasing the entertainment budget and raise your game with the entertainment quality focusing on the majority adult guests; the children are more than catered for during the day and early evening.

Rooms not too bad, have been to better naturist hotels, Food poor, flies on dishes, and outside service, also bad with sparrows pecking at the food. Would not recommend eating in hotel, I used to go out to the Blue Parrot, where I found meals that I could enjoy, some nights they have entertainment on, and the owners were very friendly, tried Frankies Bar, but not much going on.

Stayed here for 10nights in Aug and couldn't have had a more relaxing time. Our room was well kept, the food although not outstanding, you would need to be really fussy to go hungry. Pool was brilliant. Animation team seemed to put a lot of effort in but didn't put anyone under any pressure to join in. I have stayed in Vera Playa several times but i think i enjoyed the hotel most of all. I hate to use the term 'specialist hotel' as i found everyone to appear to be and behave perfectly 'normal' ,perhaps even better but without the restrictions of clothes. I saw no bad or untoward behaviour and would not hestate to recommend that people give it a try at least once in their life. The staff were helpful although i suspect the recession is having an effect.

This was our first trip to Vera Playa but it certainly won't be our last! Altogether, this was the most relaxing and restful week's holiday we have had in a long time.

The hotel itself is pretty modest although kept clean and well maintained. The rooms and public areas are dated but fine. The outdoor freeform pool with adjacent jacuzzi is very attractive although the bodies do end up clustered pretty close together on the loungers by the pool. We chose to spend our days down at the fantastic naturist beach, where the hotel has some loungers and shades (daily rental at extra cost), popping up to the pool to cool off from time to time. There is a gate offering direct access from hotel to beach next to the pleasant indoor pool which provided a warmer swimming experience, very nice at the end of the beach day.

The restaurant is classic 4 star hotel large scale buffet. Far from great but adequate for a week. The outdoor dining terrace is really fine though. We went half board which had the flexibility of taking either lunch or dinner each day and mostly went out for dinner in the evening. There seems to be a good range of restaurants in the area (hire car required and driver stay off the drink-in addition to that being the only right thing to do the police are all over the roundabout near the hotel at night) and we particularly liked the steakhouse on the road into Garrucha.

The short street running up to the hotel has a number of unremarkable shops, bars and restaurants and could well do with some smartening up but it is an ok enough place to have a couple of drinks.

Overall though, the great beach and the easy naturist atmosphere round the hotel make for a really relaxing time where you just feel the stress dropping off. We'd really recommend it!
