“Lovely stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Attended a wedding here and stayed the night. Lovely spacious room, tastefully decorated. Loved the quirky old parts of the building. Friendly staff, nice breakfast and great value for money. Charming place. It is very centrally located so there was a bit of noise from the street below at night and in the morning, but that's the trade off for being in the centre of town. The room was double glazed which helped.

We always stay over at this lovely hotel on a Sunday evening when we go to the Hitchin Folk Club held here. We love the old world charm, brilliant evening meal and breakfast. Compliments to the chefs, also Jonathan and the other young man who also serves and takes the orders. Plus the young lady with the blonde hair who is there for breakfast. They are absolutely brilliant and work very hard and are a real credit. Will be here again in June and September.

I stayed here for one night on a work trip. The hotel is in a good location, near to pubs and restaurants. My room was spacious, and the room and the bathroom were clean. Due to the higgledldypiggledy-ness of the building (which I think gives it a bit more charm than a modern purpose built hotel), room sizes are a hit and miss. One of my colleagues only had a shower in her bathroom as it was too small for a bath, which she was a bit disappointed by.
The staff were friendly and we had an evening meal in the hotel which was tasty and good value for money.
The only thing I was a bit disappointed by was the breakfast. There was only one person serving and clearing tables, which wasn't enough for the number of people at that time. It was clear most of the guests eating breakfast were there on business and might not be able to have such a leisurely breakfast, but we had to wait a long time to order (and only then because we were quite forceful about calling the waiter over), and quite a long time for the food to actually arrive. I had poached eggs on toast and the eggs were a bit overcooked.

Two nights over a weekend. Both nights with loud parties until the early hours. Terrible bed, a shower i was too tall to fit under and mediocre breakfast. Stay at the priory for a much better experience of Hitchin.

We appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback regarding your recent stay. We're sorry on this occasion the room was not to your liking and you were disturbed by noise during the night. If you'd made your complaints known during your stay we would have been happy to move you to another room and tried to make amends. Once again thank you for your comments.

Having stopped off previously and had Sunday lunch thought of Sun Hotel when considering weekend away.Hotel situated in centre of town and very accessible. Easy check in and receptionist very informative about hotel and towns amenities. The room was comfortable and the food was excellent (the breakfast in particular with a good choice of dishes well prepared). Set me up for the day ahead. The real stars though are the staff. They were all friendly, very helpful and efficient. All stars in fact. A pleasant weekend infact.

Room Tip: rooms away from high street are quieter

I stayed at sun hotel for my brothers wedding party on entering the room it had a musty smell the room was also very dusty the bathroom was really dirty the shower screen looked like it had never been cleaned and the shower head needed serious descaling needless to say I never had a shower my son in law was in another room and he did have a shower and the whole pipe broke off with water squirting everywhere my husband went to report this and was asked if he could fix it as there was no one in the hotel to do it we stopped the water from coming out but the pipe was still broke but no one from the hotel even went to look towels and linen were badly stained and although most of the staff were really friendly I I will not be staying in the hotel again and wouldn't recommend it I may have considered it if we had more concern and help with the shower incident and not just told to sort it ourselves

Room Tip: Not at this hotel unless you take cleaning gear and a tool box

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback regarding your recent visit. We wouldn't ask guests to make their own repairs and apologise if this was the impression given. As we couldn't fix the problem overnight we could only offer another room to use on this occasion and again our apologies for the inconvenience caused. We will look into the housekeeping issues raised and thank you again for your feedback.

Stayed here recently for a weekend whilst working in the area. Hotel is well placed in the middle of the town with many restaurants nearby. My room was adequate but that is really all I can say about it. It had a double bed squeezed into it which was only accessible from one side. The en-suite was rather small with a shower which was actually rather good. The building itself is an old coaching house so one should accept that the rooms are laid out in somewhat of a rabbit warren of corridors.
I was worried about evening noise after reading other reviews but on my stay noise was never a real problem.
I ate in the hotel on the Sunday night and the food was pleasant. Be aware that the restaurant becomes extremely busy on a Sunday afternoon/evening.
