“What a lovely way to spend a few hours.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

These lavender fields are just outside of Hitchin, in the village of Ickleford. I went last year with my 3yr old grandaughter and returned today with a girlfriend. On arrival we paid £4 each, which entitled us to a pair of scissors and a plastic carrier bag with which to cut and keep as much lavender as would fit into the bag plus 4 beautiful sunflowers. It is such a relaxing thing to do, there were lots of people there but the fields are large enough for that not to be a problem, apart from a few guidelines there were no rules or regulations and the beauty of the place is amazing. After we had put our harvest into the car we returned the scissors and browsed the shop before having a cup of coffee and some cake sitting at a table in the open air. The cafe is large and all the food looks to be freshly prepared. The staff are friendly and helpful and I received knowledgeable advice on which plants to buy for my own garden. There is a variety of lavender related products on sale such as honey, toiletries and decorative items plus a few other things such as ceramic pots. We were probably there for about two hours and enjoyed every minute of it, it is excellent value, the cafe/shop is in a lovely rustic situation and the fields are stunning and well worth visiting.

“Lovely place and wonderful picture opportunities!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012 via mobile

I love this place! The first time we went, we paid to go into the actual lavender fields. It was almost £5 for an adult which I felt was a tad expensive. You do however get a bag and scissors to borrow so you can fill a bag of lavender to take home.

Nice gift shop with lots of products made using their lavender and a nice cafe. The scones are nice, arrive warm and come with butter, jam and cream. Well worth the £2!

There are also toilets in the cafe area which were modern and clean.

Definitely worth a visit.

We still love to visit but now we just go to the cafe and for a walk beside the fields. You can still see and photograph the lavender although not cut any! It's beautiful and great for any buddying photographers!

“Unusual Outing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

My partner and I with two friends visited Hitchin Lavender on a dull wet miserable day in July. It is an interesting experience .We paid £4 each and were each given a bag and a pair of sissors and were invited to walk to the lavender fields and cut as much lavender as you wished to take home. The plants were in full flower but would have been quite spectacular if the weather had been sunny. The walk to the field was muddy and passing rather grotty and run down farm buildings. We did enjoy cutting our flowers. Returning to the barn we had jacket potatoes and tea. Ok but nothing one would write home to mother about. What I expected and did not find was a history of lavender in Hitchin. I have to say I found it a rather 'flat' experience, due, mostly, to the weather. The £4 entrance fee gets you a bag and the opportunity to cut some lavender to take home with you. Nothing more.

“Beautiful half day out!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

The fields are just coming up to full bloom, and for £4 entry fee you get a big bag and some scissors to cut your own lavender to take home to dry. We managed to get one of the very few sunny days this summer and it was really beautiful. I must have taken a hundred photos, and its well worth walking right to the top of the hill as not many people do, and its tranquil and quiet up there with just bird song and wonderful perfume for company! Highly recommended, the staff were so pleasant and welcoming. We didnt eat in the tea room, but it looked like there was some lovely home cooked food for sale and tables both inside and outside.
