“Discover the Welsh Lakeland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

The Elan Valley and surrounding area has five dams/lakes which were constructed to provide water for Birmingham totally by gravity, i.e. no pumps in 70 plus miles!
Plenty of paths to walk along, some challenging.Good roadways to drive along.
Also the old coach road through wild countryside to reach Aberystwyth, or turn off to other interesting places.
Read the book "The Elan Valley Way" by David Milton/Meridian Books which describes a long distance walk from Birmingham to Central Wales. The walk is in 10 stages and deviates from the pipeway interestingly extending the walk to 128.5 miles

“Fantastic area.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

What a beautiful area. Excellent walking from the visitor centre and all along the reservoirs. The recent storms had flooded all the reservoirs, which meant all the dams had spectacular waterfalls flowing over them.Views to die for. drive across the mountains to the coast.

“High quality visitor centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

Positioned at the base of the lowest dam in the series this centre provides the perfect base to plan and take your journey. Plenty of cheap parking, a really nice well priced cafe, bike hire and historical display all help the experience. However the best thing is really helpful knowledgable staff who helped my son and I plan our tour of the area. The range of users was evident with cyclists, walkers, drivers all branching out on the various mapped trails up and down the valley. Easily one of the best visitor centres we have ever used.
