at age 64 my worst ever stay .very little sleep as door was being knocked into the early hours and people being let in . went down at 2 30 am to complain , barman did not care and told me take up in morning . on arrival we had stated that we had an early start and wouldnot expect breakfast but access to coffee cereals and toast would be ok .
all doors except side exit were locked so we had to leave with nothing . we were in a 25 mile walk so this did not help .
have tried to complain but the manager a mr deakin has not put us in touch with the owners . would never return or recomend this hotel .

Popped in for lunch and found the menu to be a bit pretentious and pricey. Lasagne was overcooked and dry, chicken was average, chips were abysmal. Wrinkled and powdery, tasted and felt like they'd been cooked and hour ago and reheated in the microwave. Four meals and half-glasses of soft drink were £48 and certainly not worth it. Pub should stick to the basic pub meals and do them well, not have loads of 'fancy' meals and not do any of them well.

Just had the most delicious Sunday lunch . The carvery was plentiful, the lady dishing out the beef could have fed 3 with what was on my plate. Beautifully cooked vegetables, and plenty of them. Pudding was apple crumble and cream, superb.

Have not stayed at the hotel, but will definately in the future. Staff helpful and friendly, hotel spotlessly clean. Great little hotel, well worth a visit if you are going to Gigrin Farm to watch the Red Kite feeding, which is brilliant.

When you park at the back of the hotel, you start to wonder.
When you get to your room you will be pleasantly surprised.
Our room had been recently modernised to a good standard, everything that you could need, new and clean. Free mineral water and fruit plus tea and coffee making facilities (and biscuits).
The restaurant is at the back of the bar but again don't be put off. Good food, generous portions and friendly staff. I would stay and dine there again.

Our cycle mixed group of ten stayed twice there as part of a tour of north wales. Rooms have been well refurbished with card opening doors, great shower, basin and loo in a compact space. It is a small town pub that does food and b&b. Lounge area and tv one end of bar. Great food and beer! One of the top stays of the 8 day tour. Nice atmosphere. Only niggle was it took 2 months to get a lost personal radio back but nether-the less it was posted safely back with no request for costs.

The Elan Hotel is in a good and quiet location in town. The pub/restaurant has a bright and homely feel. There is plenty of outside seating to the front and rear of the hotel. Breakfast was good (didn't eat there in the evening) and plentiful. Our room was at the back of the hotel overlooking the small car park and beyond into the hills. The hotel/rooms are clearly in the process of being tarted up but this didn't matter at all. I would highly recommend The Elan as a comfortable and good value hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the two rooms at the back of the hotel

Spent a couple of nights in Room 10. Good sized bedroom with bijou but perfectly adequate en suite - and a nice view complete with red kite. A generous bowl of fresh fruit and a couple of bottles of mineral water, on top of the usual tea, coffee and biscuit supplies, was a nice touch that I wasn't expecting in a pub, particularly at the price.

Food was really good - fresh fruit and yoghurts, juice, toast made from real bread and gargantuan full welsh for breakfast. Sandwiches for a packed lunch also came in XXL size and were excellent. Dinner - well, the chips were probably the best I've eaten since I left home 30 years ago, and I may never cook lamb chops again, because my other half can only compare them unfavourably - I have to agree, they were THAT good!

Wifi was available throughout. Good atmosphere in the bar, big TV on one side, quiet lounge area on the other, and a separate restaurant area. Never thought I'd spend an evening watching Springwatch on telly with a nice steak, good pint, surfing the internet - in a pub. Well-located in Rhayader, and only 3 miles or so away from the Elan Valley visitor centre and the RSPB reserve Carngafallt.

Looking forward to staying there again - and the chips .......................
