“Welcome relief for 2 touring cyclists”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

We managed to find this place totally last minute, by knocking on the door. The owner was very friendly and wecloming and was able to give us an en-suite twin room. Its an excellent, traditional style accommodation in a beautiful location. Our twin room was very clean with all you could need for a comfortable rest. Breakfast was superb.

We stayed at the Liverpool House for a couple of nights so we could visit the Elan Valley. We chose here because it was the only hotel available in Rhayader at the time that could provide a cot and accommodate our dog as well.

The first thing to say about this guest house is that the service is excellent. Ann is very welcoming and ensured that we had everything we needed. They were able to give us information about the local area, including where we could exercise the dog close by. Although dogs are able to stay, they cannot be left unattended in rooms. This does present a problem when going out for an evening meal and the owners didn't know of any dog friendly pubs in the town. It would be beneficial to provide some information to this end to help others in the future.

The room we stayed in was well equipped and spacious. The decor was a little tired and a little touching up wouldn't go amiss.Having stayed in a few hotels that allow dog, this is amongst the cleanest we have seen as the rooms are kept spotlessly clean.

The only gripe we really had was the breakfast. Although it was presented and prepared well, we didn't feel that the quality was the same as other similarly priced hotels we have stayed in. The bacon was very salty and the sausages were of poor quality. It would have been nice to have slightly better quality ingredients as this would make a huge difference in my opinion.

As other reviewers have commented this is like being transported back in time. Very quaint and echoes of a bygone age. Firstly the Guest house itself. If you want a modern hotel look elsewhere. If you are wanting a spotlessly clean room with character then book here. If you want a view to die for when you wake up book the triple room at the back of the house. Superb. Ann is the type of landlady that makes your stay complete, nothing at all is any trouble, rooms are cosy and breakfast delicious. A real find. Secondly the town. Lots of small shops, pubs and restaurants all run by locals great choice and very friendly. We loved Rhayader.

Room Tip: Book one of the rooms at the rear

Even though we left booking a tad late, Ann managed to find space across 3 singles and a twin to fit us in. Liverpool House is a great 'what you see is what you get' B&B, nothing fancy, but everything you need for a comfortable nights rest. Always clean, the rooms are what I would class as reassuringly old fashioned, with TV and wi-fi if needed. There is usually no trouble parking on the street, but there is also ample room to the rear of the place, which was great for parking the van. As usual, Ann was happy to serve breakfast earlier than normal the following morning, so we could make the early start we needed to, and what a breakfast! Full Welsh - spot on!

Stayed here recently on a cycle trip. Had emailed the owners via booking website re: facilities for cyclist and to inform them that i would be a wee bit later on a Saturday night arriving circa 8pm, just to ensure that was OK. Didn't hear back but made my way to Rhayader on the day in question.
Boy was i glad to see the B and B when i arrived. Owners were very friendly and chatty, booking in was a breeze and they have excellent facilities for bikes and should advertise this more. Room was a small single, clean, well appointed, nice bed which was eagerly slept in. Shared bathroom which is indeed like a bathroom you would find in your granny's, this one happened to have a very annoying habit of not locking. Water pressure in shower not the best and so lacked the refreshing oomph i was looking for.
Breakfast in the morning was served promptly and included full english with choice of cereals etc. Overall a pleasant stay if the rooms and ambience are a bit retro.

We booked two rooms on short notice during our driving tour of England and Wales. Ann, our innkeeper, was helpful without intruding on our family's privacy. She gladly loaned us a bottle-opener to replace the one we left behind at our last stop, and kept our perishables in her fridge. The rooms were comfortable, not too small, and pleasantly cool with the windows open (no A/C). The en-suite bathrooms are not very large, but everything works. The view from our rooms was gorgeous Welsh countryside - sheep grazing on the hills.

Rhayader is a small market town set in the beautiful Elan Valley. We did not stay long enough to enjoy any of the scenic hikes, but our after-dinner stroll in the village park was refreshing. Ann recommended the "Lamb and Flag" for dinner - good "pub grub" with many locals also there. Breakfast was the traditional "full English".

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back with views towards the hills.

One night was enough .We stayed in the building to the left of the main Liverpool House, apart from the musty smell the room wasn't very clean and the view of the Texaco service station across the road was to die for .The only redeeming feature was the breakfast .
