“A little gem - in a beautiful part of the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013 via mobile

After a very cold 10 mile run in late November, I was looking for a place to have a well earned pint and traditional pub lunch. The Lamb & Flag was the perfect place. The staff were very friendly and the lamb & red wine pie was out of this world. Add to this a roaring log fire - the perfect place rest my weary legs.

Visited this pub whilst staying in Rhayader for a few days, pub food was good in both quantity, quality and price with friendly staff and cask ales. You have a choice of 9 pubs in this village and although modern inside the bars ,it is worth a visit. The local pubs do not really compete with each other as they open at different times and even days. Missed having a roaring fire which featured in some of the pubs.

Room Tip: .Visit, sit down and enjoy your drink , meal and relax.

Just stayed for one night. the bed in room 1 is the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in. The room was basic but clean.
Do not forget this is a pub and below your bedroom window are tables which fill up with drunken groups shouting and screaming until past midnight. Just time for a couple of hours sleep before the lorries start thundering past your window at 5 ish!
The walls are very thin so sounds travel between rooms
yes it is cheap but there are better places nearby.

Room Tip: Ask for one at the back of the hotel.

Simon M, Owner at Lamb & Flag Inn, responded to this review, October 1, 2013
Hi UKTonyz, I was really sorry to read your review of The Lamb & Flag earlier today. We strive to give every one of our customers the best experience we can, and I’m obviously disappointed that we weren’t able to do that for you on this occasion.

I only wish you could have voiced your concerns at the time, we have rooms that are detached from the pub which you may have preferred. Unfortunately last week we did have a few large funerals for long standing customers, which may have been the cause of the late night noise. We’re generally a small quiet pub but appreciate your feedback and will endeavour to improve in future.

Hopefully you'll see from other reviews that your experience is not the norm, my name is Simon and my manager is Mel, if you do decide to come again please ask for one of us so that we can introduce ourselves – we’d love the chance to change your opinion of us.

stayed for 1 night at The Lamb and Flag at a cost of £25 each per night. We were impressed at the quality of the room. Lovely white linen and towels, comfy pillows ,tea and coffee making facilities and toiletries. What a bargain break .The bed was comfortable and the room looked lovely.Breakfast was beautifully presented, quality produce and garnished with fresh parsley .The tables were set with 2 jugs of fruit juices and baskets of cereals. Also impressive was to be given a coffee pot each. Wonderful stay made better by the lovely woman who served our breakfast and made us so welcome. Would recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 1 .clean and comfy. overlooked the main road

3 of us on a cycling tour and we could not have picked a better place to stay. The bedrooms were simply furnished but very comfortable and spotlessly clean, No need to venture too far in the evening. The pub serves a cracking pint of HSB and a traditional but extensive menu of tastily cooked food at very fair prices. You certainly will not starve, as the day starts with a most hearty cooked breakfast (with excellent back bacon!) with everything you could ask for, including a large jug of iced orange juice. The landlady is a treasure and nothing was too much trouble for her. Okay, the lorries going past early in the morning are a bit of a pain, but if I ever go back to Rhayader it will definitely be the Lamb & Flag again. £25! Just amazing!

A traditional pub with a warm welcome from a very friendly staff. I visited at lunchtime and had a huge but very reasonably priced baguette which included salad and very crunchy chips. A half pint of beer to wash it down. Very good standard of food and generous portion sizes.

Cloud Wifi available.

Poor weather forced us from camping to this wonderful B&B, the staff were helpful and polite. A group of us had a meal on the Saturday night, all were impressed by the good food and reasonable prices, meals were a good size and tastefully presented many with vine ripened tomatoes on the top, simple but impressive. We paid £25 pppn for a twin bedded en-suite room. Simple but very clean with everything required for the stay. The breakfast was very impressive with a choice of several cereals, tea or coffee. The full English breakfast was 2 bacon, 2 eggs, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans and hash browns, along with a rack of toast and preserves. The breakfast was impressive and piping hot. I cannot fault the staff, accommodation and food at this little gem, If in Rhayader, this is you port of call for the duration. Mr Llewellyn (the caretaker) and his partner.

Room Tip: simple, clean and super food
