“Good value, comfortable place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful part of mid Wales. Very clean and comfortable accommodation within a short walk of the centre of Rhayader. The breakfasts are freshly cooked with good ingredients - a wider selection of fresh fruit would improve what is already a good offer.

Having stayed at The Horseshoe in August while attending a dog show at Builth Wells, my travelling companion and I had no desire to seek accommodation elsewhere when we returned for a second show in October. That fact is, in itself, a recommendation.

Paul is a very hospitable host. The bedrooms are clean and very comfortable, and the breakfast is excellent. There are several good pub/restaurants within easy walking distance of the establishment and - for those with dogs - riverside walks nearby. Rhayader is a good base for exploring the dams and the beautiful countryside of this area, and it is less than an hour's drive to the coast.

For those looking for a quiet, clean, friendly and very comfortable guest-house, I have absolutely no reservations about recommending The Horseshoe.

Mary D.

We had a very comfortable stay at the Horseshoe Guesthouse. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and they had a good variety. Very friendly with our dog as well. Would stay again if back in that area.

I have to agree with other good ratings. Very spacious, clean and comfortable. Paul is very friendly and helpful. The free wi-fi was the most accessible I've used away and had a good signal strength. Breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked. I can't wait to return with hubby for a longer stay!

Room Tip: They all looked good

It is hard to see how our stay at Horseshoe guesthouse could have been improved. It is relaxed and unpretentious. The rooms are clean and comfortable and good value at £34pppn. The breakfast is very good. It is close to the centre of Rhayader. Paul was very helpful in accommodating my Jack Russell which was able to run in the enclosed garden straight from our room. He also recommended the Eagles pub a few yards up the road which was also friendly and efficient with good value food, and dog-friendly. I plan to return.

Room Tip: Twin room has access to the garden.

We stayed here for 2 nights during a recent bike trip in mid-wales. The owner is a biker himself, and was more than helpful when it came to helping us with route questions. The rooms were clean and pleasant. We just had a nice stay overall.

We stayed here for one night in August to attend a wedding. We had the twin room which is on the ground floor. As we were only staying to attend a wedding our time at the guesthouse was limited but the essentials were all ticked: a nice welcome, comfortable bed, very quiet at night, a satisfactory shower in the morning and a very good cooked breakfast which was served very promptly. Guests had their own area to relax. Only one minor point - the room could have been slightly cleaner around the edges - bit of cobwebs and dust in the corners. This place would be suitable for familities, individuals or groups. The B&B is on a quiet street in the village.
