“A Cut Above”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Great little countryside spa hotel, lovely location and main house extremely welcoming. Unfortunately we were ushered to a cramped out building across the courtyard. A bit like a Butlins Chalet, not what we expected for the price. Half of the equipment in the gym was out of action and the small pool also across the courtyard was great except for there being lots of the local population using it, did not mind this but perhaps some restrictions on occupancy would help. Restaurant a bit ostentatious and pricy especially if you did not book with the original reservation. Food was O.K. Was hoever offered lots of tit bits and was charged handsomely for them as well. Decided to eat out the second night and the local hostelries offered a far more affordable and exciting fare. Most staff were quite accomodating but some were not and made for an uncomfortable stay.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room in the main house if you dare.

My partner and I and a group of friends had the pleasure of staying at Walletts Court recently. It was without doubt the best hotel we have stayed in. The location is ideallic, the facilities first class and the staff were friendly, courteous and professional. We cannot speak highly enough of our experience of Walletts Court and will most definitely be staying again. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The four poster rooms are luxurious and have maginficent views of the church and surrounding country...

Stayed for a relaxing hen weekend. The staff made all the party of ladies feel welcome and special. The bride was treated to an extra long massage! Spa facilities were brilliant!!!
The whole experience was lovely and I now hear they offer slumber party's!

it's hard to explain how a good hotel like this is being run down by the people who work there. The staff are not nice - with the exception of Mary in spa who was so warm to us. She truly made our stay.
The reception staff - particularly the males - seemed to lack serious training in customer care. Too many faults to sit here and list them all. But lets just say I won't be returning based on the customer service unfortunately. Had wanted to come down with my mum for a spa break.

To top it off, we kept having to ask for two of everything in our hotel room since it was for my husband and i. One teaspoon and mug (so we asked for another so he could have a cup of tea too). one towel. One set of toiletries. So annoying and frustrating! We were made to feel like a bother when we asked for a second towel every day. But for the price we were paying, this hotel was a disgrace in the quality of their service.

Room Tip: Don't sleep in the main hotel - sleep in one of the outside cabin rooms. It felt like we were c...

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at Walletts Court.
We always like our customers to inform us of any issues of concern and especially if the service is not to the standard expected.

We are currently implementing training for all front of house, reception and restaurant staff with an external training company in association with Visit Kent. We have further training scheduled for customer service to a higher level on the highly regarded Welcome to Excellence Program and hope to see improvements in due course.

We take staff training and service levels seriously and will continue to do so. We will be using your comments and speaking individually with the staff members who were working to ensure this does not happen again.

We would always encourage our customers to inform management of any service issues during their stay to allow us to correct them at the time.

We thank you for your comments and please be assured there will be action regarding your feedback. We'd love to welcome you back in the future should you wish to consider visiting again.

Due to the ferries to Brittany being on strike......again, we needed to change travel arrangements and made a late booking to stay at Walletts Court for a third time. It is so conveniently situated for the Dover ferries, it is easy to overlook that this is a pleasant hotel in a lovely position with an excellent restaurant and worthy of a longer stay to explore the historic Kent coastline. Booking in is friendly and simple, our room, above the spa on this occasion, was spacious and appealing. We arrived late and a little fraught from the usual M25 traffic problems but the restaurant was held open for us to have an aperitif follwed by a lovely meal from a most unusual menu. A minor niggle was the extended time that English breakfast took to arrive, we really needed to get to that ferry earlier!

Room Tip: Rooms are spread around the site and we have stayed in different rooms each time but the lofted room...

Having stayed a couple of years ago in a beautiful but noisy (ancient house - soundproofing not the thing in the C15th (?)) room above the dining room, we stayed in a tipi this year. Fun experience. A few quibbles - see below - but on the whole we very much enjoyed staying at Wallet's Court again. A beautiful old house in nice grounds, cosy and comfortable rather than grand. Helpful and friendly staff. Very good food. There are two tipis, well separated. Pretty well equipped, and ours had a remarkably comfortable bed. Really lovely on a fine September morning to walk over the lawns to use the health spa's facilities and pool before a very fine breakfast. My wife much enjoyed her beauty treatment in the spa, and I much enjoyed some clay pigeon shooting with really excellent instructor. However, a few quibbles that need to be sorted out for this hotel to attain a top ranking: the waitresses were charming and helpful but need to be better trained - the cutlery was never quite right, knives missing, large spoon for a course in a tiny glass, that sort of thing; torch in tipi had run out of power, replaced by another that had also expired (in the end had to resort to a little torch in the car); heater in tipi very low power when what is needed on a September morning is something to push out a wave of heat; no hanging or drawer space in tipi (I know it is meant to be basic but a small chest and a coat stand, not to mention a few rugs, would easily fit in). Nevertheless we shall certainly return (to a tipi or room). I see that someone else is thinking about a Christmas break here: so too are we, I think it would be magical (but we may avoid a tipi).

Room Tip: Avoid the room directly above the dining room - a lovely room but very noisy.

A pleasant stay at a good hotel was overshadowed by a very rude member of the health club (i.e. not a hotel guest or member of staff) who told my daughter that she was not allowed to use the pool before 9.00am. This was despite the fact that she had done so the day before and the hotel were also OK with it. The issue has been raised with the hotel and we hope they take suitable steps to prevent such behaviour again

Otherwise a nice hotel with attentive staff and a variety of room types and styles. Good food.

Our the shower head in our bathroom was broken and although reported to the hotel I struggle to see the room service did not notice this whilst preparing the room for occupation.

Room Tip: There are a variety of rooms including some away from the main building So it is important to check...
