I stayed here for three nights over Easter Weekend.
The hotel is well situated and just off the A19 bypass around Selby. The grounds appear to be in need of maintenance and with a littlle gardening care they could be quite welcoming. At the time of the visit they were not. Lots of free parking.
Check-in was smooth enough, having made reservations previously. Room 12 is to be avoided. It is immediately above a childrens indoor play area, and the access door is constantly opening and BANGING closed. This could be easily solved by adjusting the automatic closer, or even installing a couple of rubber door stoppers to deaden the constant bang-bang-bang. As regards a complaint to the manageress:- this brought forth the patronising remark that no-one had complained before. I am not sure whether that means no-one had complained to HER before, or just generally. Regardless, I am not sure if the fact that there were no previous complaints is relevant.?? Avoid the Room 12.
The restuarant area is clean and the food very good. No complaints about breakfasts or evening meal. The pub area is also pretty good. Although why the pub closes down at 10.30p.m. is beyond me. Perhaps they don't open late on holiday weekends.
Apart from the previously mentioned trouble with room 12, the hotel room was clean and the hotel reasonably quiet. This area (Selby) is not blessed with much choice when it comes to hotels, and so it would seem that when you have little competition, service and amenities suffer a bit. The hotels strong point is the restaurant and the staff somewhat compensate for the above described manager.
