“Great views”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

Decided to try this Hotel/Restaurant for lunch before going for evening meal. (I have found this is always a wise precaution) Out of season so not many people in which meant we got a window seat. Lovely views over Portballintrae. Ordered a smoked salmon salad with "hand-cut" chips as a side. Everything was very tasty but wasn't impressed by the vinegar which was not malt, but white (acetic acid). Nor by the prepacked butter and Flora portions - very tacky. Also didn't find atmosphere congenial with at least one member of staff being rather po-faced. Have decided not to risk it for dinner as it is also quite expensive.

“very impressive, nice all rounder.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

we enjoyed a lovely family lunch here after spending time in portrush. it was lovely to go to portballintrae away from the buzz of portrush, on a bank holiday. we went in and where able to get a table no problem, service was quick and friendly, meal arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. good menu and children catered for. nice modern atmosphere and views over ocean. very pleased with food, good local quality produce and large portions.all in all very pleased and would recommend to locals or tourists alike.

“A Pleasant Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

My wife and I honeymooned across Ireland and stopped at this hotel between seeing the Giant's Causeway and heading to Sligo. At first, we figured we didn't need a reservation because there would be other options around the hotel. Um, wrong. Definitely wrong. The nearest other restaurant is a 20 minute drive away (if I remember right). So, luckily, it was the beginning of tourist season the restaurant had openings.

This is a place where it seemed like the locals came to celebrate special occasions or have a nice dinner out. My expectations were pretty low, because honestly if you are the only restaurant in town it would be very easy to phone it in.

What a great surprise when our food arrived and it looked (and tasted) wonderful! My wife had the white fish that was on special and I had the fish and chips. My dish was good, but my wife's was just awesome.

This was the best restaurant we went to on the whole trip, and we traveled for two weeks all around the country. What a complete and total shock, but it's true! This place was great!

“Lovely lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Had a lovely lunch with my other half. I ordered the scampi which was cooked in beer batter and served with side salad and tartare sauce. It was crisp and golden on the outside and succulent and tasty on the inside. My husband had the chicken caesar salad, which was attractively presented and contained a whole sliced chicken breast which he declared was very tasty. The service was efficient and pleasant and we sat at a table by the window overlooking the sea - it was lovely.
