“Lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

We stayed here for 2 nights in July 2012. Great rooms, lovely ambience. The restaurant gets very busy and the service is slow but the food is of a good quality. The pub is in a beautiful location. We came back here a couple of weeks later (for the restaurant only) with our children and the rest of the extended family ..sadly the service was still poor but he food was lovely and I had pre warned everyone about the service so we expected it but everyone agreed it was a great meal out.

I spent 4 good nights here over Xmas. It is a fine old pub with an open fireplace, and restaurant quality food, situated in a quaint village, next to the church. Free parking and good WiFi. There was quite a bit of activity in the pub downstairs, as one would expect over the hoildays, but neither too loud nor too late.
My room was fine, the hallway dominated by ancient beams, and I swear my door was 5 feet six inches high! Certainly comfortable with all I needed. I had lunch in the pub once, and dinner in the restaurant once and the food was excellant. Not Pub Food, (tho nothing wrong with that.) I mention the church because over the Christmas period the bells rang out clearly and often, which to me only added to charm of Chalfont St. Peters. Had a morning flight at LHR and got to Avis at the airport via Denham and Iver Heath in 25 minutes.

The Greyhound is officially our local - although we rarely venture through the doors! However, it was an excellent choice for our party of 17 for Christmas day lunch.
There was a wide range of menu choices for us all, and some flexibility for our children, too. I opted for a rather lovely fois gras terrine followed by turkey with all the trimmings. Only minor complaint was that my portion was smaller than the kids' portions: "I'll see if I can get you some more potatoes, sir…". They never came.
The deserts took a while to come, but were very tasty and it didn't stop us having fun.
Other than our forgetful waiter and the time it took to get our deserts, service was very good and the food extremely tasty. I've heard plenty of good things about the restaurant, so will try and make it through the door of our local more frequently in future.

I was with a party for a small Christmas lunch. Although almost on my doorstep, I had not been to The Greyhound before. the car park is very small, but if you park in the large public car park close to the church there is lots of room and it is a two minute walk, you just have to pay. At lunchtime the large bar was relatively quiet, and the bar staff welcoming. The dining room looks recently refurbished and was nicely decorated for the Christmas season. A very large party were already seated, and well into the laughing juice by the sound of it! The flagged floor and pale green panelled walls are attractive but reflect the noise.

I had the vegetarian option of ricotta and spinach ravioli which was delicious and well presented. Others opted for steak baguette, salmon, or soup of the day, all favourably commented upon. Desserts ranged from creme brulee, bread and butter pudding, sticky toffee, ice creams and other choices, all nice but not cheap at £5.99. The cheese board at £8.50 was commented on as being pricey so nobody chose it. Coffee was good although we waited a very long time for the desserts, probably due to the big party. I would return as it is nearby, but would not make a trip especially.

Having heard mixed reviews from various local contacts I decided to give the Greyhound a go for business pub lunch.

The sandwiches and fillings were tasty and there is a good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks available. The coffee is especially good, particularly after cold and wet walks with the dogs!

A friend stayed here and I visited the room when she checked in and while it looked clean and comfortable, it definitely needed a refresh.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back away from the A413 which is a very busy road!

sadly the carpets were very stained and not clean there was some other issues concerning the cleanliness of the room, the quiz night was rather irritating and very loud in the room, the staff didn't know what a sherry was when we came to ordering drinks.

Room Tip: stay somewhere else

what a shame, booked as a birthday treat, sadly the room was very tatty, stained and worn carpet
grubby bed linen, cobwebs not what you expect for the price, food in the restaurant was actually good, but that is all, it is a pub trying to be a hotel, which it is not,
