“Fabulous retreat and base to discover the whisky trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

Very charming hosts, beautiful rooms in a lovely old house. The rooms are individually decorated and have enSuite bathrooms. The house walking distance to Cardhu Distillery.
The breakfast is fabulous but do not miss the dinners, try the homemade bread!

I have spent six nights at Cardhu Country House and the title of my review says it all. Since I knew I would arrive late after a long journey, I had agreed for a light salad . I was greeted by Tina and Norman with a wonderful plate including delicious quiche, salmon, vegetables and a glass of wine. That was just the beginning. My spotless room was very fascinating with fireplace and wood flooring and very nice tweed decorations. Fluffy bath towels and even bath robes completed a modern and new bathroom. There is a special atmosphere about this place. For one thing you can tell Tina and Norman, the owners, have a passion for their activity. They make their guest feel at home and take pleasure in an evening chat and a dram. Not to mention that they go out of their way to suggest places to go and even book for you. My son and I had dinner one night and again it was delicious. Doubtless I will go back!

We stayed two nights whilst we visited the whisky trail. Great location, only 10 mins to Aberlour. Very friendly hosts and a nice house. We had dinner the first night which was very nice. Breakfast was also ver good. The room was large with basic necessities but could do with some more hanging space. Our shower wasn't working but we had a nice bath so it didn't matter. I would recommend Cardhu house for anyone visiting the area.

This wonderful house is run by Norman and his extremely friendly family. The food is to die for ! Even though we had food from the number 2 cook :-) These hosts can't do enough for you.
Thankyou ever so much for making us feel so welcome.

My husband and I sought out Cardhu County House based on location alone - it is located in the heart of the Speyside Whisky Region - which includes the Macallan, Aberlour, Glenfiddich, Cardhu (a short walk away from the house), Balvenie, & Glenlivet whiskey distillers. We were pleasantly surprised in how much we just enjoyed being at the house, enjoying the view and relaxing. Our room - the Glenlivet, faced the front of the house, was large and incredibly comfortable. We arrived to the house later than expected and was greeted by the owner, Norman, and met some other guests in the front sitting room while enjoying a "wee dram" of whisky. The next morning, Norman's wife, Tina, cooked a delicious breakfast (omelets for both of us) and helped give us advice on how to plan our time schedule for our day of distillery touring.
When we left on the second morning after another delicious breakfast, we both felt like we had just spent a weekend with family and felt so at home at Cardhu Country House that it was hard to say goodbye. Needless to say, we loved our stay - loved the room and the hosts and we hope one day we'll be able to come back and enjoy another relaxing stay.

Here in april 2013 stay here 3 nights. The Room: simple, claen, good beds.
Shower: big problems with the manual. Only cold water. Light is bad, is from your backsite, so you have shadow in the mirror.
Lounge is good en the hospetallity is very good. Breakfast is simple.
Price is to much for what you get.

Room Tip: ask for room with windows

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review and feedback about our guest house.
You will be glad to know that we immediately had the shower mended on discovering the problem with the valve., As the water was still piping hot in the bath we hope it did not inconvenience you too much. We have four spotlights in that bathroom and were not aware that the lighting was a problem but thank you for bringing that to our attention.
We are glad that you enjoyed the hospitality (and 3/4 "complementary" bottle of 12 year old malt whisky) - with that in mind we were disappointed in your comment about the price being too much for what you received.
We noted you room tip about requesting a room with windows - all rooms have either one or two good sized windows.

Have just returned from a weekend at Cardhu Country House and we are so glad we found it. Everything was just perfect - great location with masses to do nearby. Really comfortable and welcoming with clean and spacious rooms. Norman and Tina are great hosts and Tina's cooking is fantastic, be sure to book in for dinner during your stay (The Mash Tun is great for another option). We will definitely return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends and family. A real gem, we didn't want to leave!!
