“Amazing location and amazing lodge.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2011

We stayed in a Moors lodge for 3 nights at the end of May and everything was perfect. On booking the lodge over the 'phone the staff were friendly and helpful and more importantly, everything was as described and ready for us at check in late afternoon.

The views from all the lodges are amazing and even though we had awful weather we didn't mind. The log burning stove was fantastic and you can help yourselves to more logs from the logstore nearby. Our 6 year old loved doing that!

The pull down bed in the lounge was confortable and the main bedroom upstairs was lovely. Ok there is only one bathroom and it's downstairs and ordinarily we would mind this, but not with these views and the fire.
The kitchenette has everything you need except champagne glasses which we took with us. Even if you forget your own bar supplies (there is plenty of room in the fridge), the hotel bar is reasonably priced.
And just because you have a kitchenette it doesn't mean you have to actually cook. The restaurant in the hotel was very good, particulary for breakfast. We enjoyed DBB and the menu changed each night.

Some might say the hotel's a little on the old fashioned side, but it's a seaside hotel in the middle of nowhere and that's all part of it's charm. The lodges are bang up to date with free wifi which worked fine.
I think it unlikely we would have enjoyed staying in the hotel as much though. Having said that, the last minute DBB offers are very tempting and the lodges not often available.

I'm regretting writing this review already as we'll be waiting even longer before there'll be a Moors lodge available again!

Room Tip: Book a Moors lodge but all the lodges are great.

Our stay was yet again excellentt. All the staff are proffessional yet welcoming, helpful and friendly and nothing is too much for them. The hotel is well furnished and comfortable. The bedroom we had was well laid out and well decorated and very clean.
The veiw from the window was stunning with veiws over the bay and out to sea.
The food was excellen, with a good choice, well cooked and well presentedand and the service was excellent at both dinner and breakfast. If you are expecting a modern 'rat race' hotel this is not the Raven Hall Hote,l but it is a relaxing, comfortable and ideal place to recharge batteries and have a great time. Can,t wait to visit again soon

We saw a deal on laterooms.com. We booked in to the hotel and we were offered to upgrade to one of the lodges for £30 extra. We looked at the lodge and didn't hesitate to upgrade as the lodge was lovely and the view was absolutely amazing.
We had a 3 course meal in the restaurant (again lovely views from the dining area) The food was nice and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
We'd recommend the hotel to anyone. The lodges really are beautiful and ideal for a couple or a small family. We will definitely be visiting again.

Room Tip: Look for a late deal as can be expensive.

Having stayed at Raven Hall some years ago my friend Honor P. and I were very ,very impressed with the significant improvements made with all aspects of this hotel. The decor was tasteful, clean and relaxing. The menu , extensive . The standard and presentation of meals were easily 4 star. Most impressive of all were the staff .Their politeness, professionalism, helpfulness and cleanlness were exemplary. The swimming fascilities were clean and inviting. The unobtrusive provision of a small chapel was a delight for Honor. Many friends held large dinner parties at Raven Hall years ago, and following our super mini break they are already looking at available dates.

We stayed at Raven Hall as part of a walking group. My partner and I upgraded to a studio which was excellent value with magnificent views accross to Robin Hood's Bay. There was a well equipped kitchenette which enabled us to make a packed lunch for our walks.

The hotel staff were fantastic and couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. They arranged for breakfast to be served early to fit in with our walking program and allowed us to use a separate room to hold a quiz on one evening.

The food was superb and there is an extensive menu of vegetarian options. The chef also catered for a couple of people in the group who needed gluten free meals. The waiters were very friendly and again nothing was too much trouble.

There is a small indoor swimming pool which was clean and well maintained.

I would definately recommend the Raven Hall if you are looking for a quiet setting with stunning views and the walking available direct from the hotel along the Cleeveland Way was wonderful.

We stayed at one of the lodges near the hotel and absolutely loved it.

+ modern spacious lodge with an amazing view and frontline seats for the sunset over Robin Hood's bay
+ romatic wood burning stove, logs get replenished by room service daily
+ very friendly and helpful reception, bar and restaurant staff
+ perfect location for travellers who want to get away from busy tourist towns
+ smaller downstairs lodges have same great views as the larger upstairs ones
+ great value

- room service ok but at times a bit unpredictable
- downstairs lodges get a bit of noise from guests moving around in upstairs lodges

Guests in the main hotel are mostly families or retirees. Overall atmosphere at the hotel is calm and very friendly.

Have stayed in a number of hotels with a large walking group and this has been the best. The location speaks for itself ,the staff were without exception courteous and friendly. They acctually seemed to be happy in their work!!
The food was very very good without exceptions again. The kitchen even managed to provide quality food for our 40 plis party whilst also catering for a wedding and all on the day of the Royal Wedding so well done.
I dont often think I would like to take my husband back to my walking hotels but I will certainly plan to revisit Raven Hall with him.Well done!! Hilary

Room Tip: We had a small standard ,fine for walkers .
