“Nice place, but some downsides”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

This was a family trip, and we spent two nights in the Djidjack. The place has a very nice garden with lots of trees and birds, something I liked very much. The Djidjack is located next to the beach, and there is also a small swimmingpool. We had an canoe excursion organised, and horseriding for the kids. This was the good part; but there were some downsides as well: Although the food was good, there were not many choices. Then, I enjoy reading a book in the evening hours when the kids are in bed, something I found difficult because there is not light outside the huts, and the restaurant area (with a great collection of francophone comic books) closes between 11pm and midnight. This leaves you with nowhere to go except your hut, which is not ideal if you are travelling with kids. This was one of the reasons why we left after two days. For these two reasons (limited food choices, no light at nighttime), I rate this otherwise really great place only three stars.

Found this place in a travel guide and chose it almost at random. Could not believe this verdant gem of the Saloum: a haven of tranquility - a good handful of individual huts for 3-5 people in the middle of a park of over a 1000 trees. The tiny sea water pool is just enough to refresh if you don't fancy walking *all* the way over to the calm sea about 50 meters away.

Excellent reception by a Swiss family and exceedingly polite staff. The kitchen has very limited choice ('plat du jour' and a couple of different sandwiches and omelets), but the dishes they serve are exquisite! The 'table d'hôtes' (if you choose it) makes the experience complete: it's really great dining together with the other guests and the family. Not to mention the large breakfast served on a platform in a large baobab tree every morning.

It's amazing to learn how this couple built this place from scratch only 10 years ago and how they're trying to combine traditional and alternative energy, eco-tourism and local village involvement.

Almost best of all: prices are very reasonable. Spent roughly 50 eur per person for half board, 1 excursion and copious amounts of (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) beverages.

We stayed three nights at the Didjack camp in late august. I would strongly recommend the place for various reasons: first of all Graziela and Jean Luc are wonderful hosts making you feel at home and helping you out with any problem you may have. Talking with them over dinner is a wonderful experience and a helpful insight into Senegal. The food was magnficent, simple but with a family atmosphere that made the plat de jour as interesting as having breakfast in the tree house. Another must see is the sacred tree in the garden, simply astonishing, and its story is even more so. The small swimming pool is a great place to sit around reading and listening to the beach which is 30 yards from the pool. You can have lovely strolls down the beach and go over to the small fishing towns.
I think it is a great place to stay, although you must remember that there is no air condition, but the fans and mosquito nets do the job just as well.
