“Loved this Place!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2010

We stayed overnight at this great winery and B & B but wished we could have stayed longer. It is a rustic log type home with just a few rooms but feels very much like staying in someones own home. Rooms had window seats and private view decks to enjoy the surrounding vineyard. Brain and Diana are great hosts who also make some great wine. Their dog took us on a walk through the grapevines and we lounged on the vast outdoor deck overlooking the valley and vineyards. Diana makes omelets to order each morning with whatever you would like inside. At night there is a bottle of port, along with home baked cookies for after treats. The Inn is quite remote with not much around except for all the delightful wineries close by. DO NOT miss the local Italian Restaurant just down the road. It is the only local dinner joint but the experience of a lifetime. No menu, Italian chef will surprise you with many courses of food that he decides is appropriate for each couple or group. Makes his pasta in the kitchen by hand for each and every dish at the time prepared. The best food you will ever consume. Giavonni is a God in the kitchen for sure.

We often travel to Amador County and El Dorado county wineries (remember Napa in the old days?) but usually make it a day trip. Last weekend, we decided to make a weekend of our trip to Fair Play and booked the Irish Room at Fitzpatrick. As a guest of the lodge, we were allowed to picnic on their deck with an amazing view (if you are not a guest, you may purchase a "ploughman's plate" or pay a fee to use the facilities). Our spacious room had a nice little balcony and huge window seat with these same views. The bed was comfy (I'm a stickler for that), the huge hot tub on yet another section of the deck was perfect for star gazing. We had dinner in Plymouth at the highly rated and fabulous restaurant, Taste. Book your reservation early! Breakfast at Fitzpatrick offers you four choices. My choice was deliciously prepared and consisted of a bed of creamed spinach topped with eggs lightly poached in sherry sauce and served with smoked salmon (or choice of other meats) on top. We will return to experience this comfortable lodge/bed and breakfast again...hopefully on a Friday night when they cook pizza in the large outdoor ovens on the deck!

We spent two nights at the Fitzpatrick Winery and Lodge and enjoyed absolutely every moment. The views from anywhere on the property are spectacular. Brian and Diana have both really put their heart and soul into this place and are wonderful hosts.

Book the Winemaker's Suite, if possible--you won't be disappointed!
