“Far overpriced, old furniture, basic restaurant and poor breakfast.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2012

Farly overpriced resort, absolutly not worth the money. Many dogs on the beach but no staff at all on the beach, they do not clean up the beach. Quality of breakfast was minimal, only eggs with no tast, dry ham, and a tastless sausage. Worst AB i ever had in Thailand. Restaurant is poor and out dated. Broken and damaged furniture. Verry basic accomodation for the price, old bathroom although it bungalows are clean.

Conclusion:
For a first time traveler to Thailand.
It could be a good looking place, becourse they don't now better.

For people who traveld more then ones to Thailand and have lots of "Thailand accomodation experience:

The place is farly overpriced and as earlier mentioned, A cashcow for the owner
and a resort without a heart at all.

( they do not invest a dollar in this resort anymore)

Room Tip: Dont go, the are much better resort on the same Island our on other island close to Koh Ngai, go to...

Stayed in seaview bungalow which had a beautiful view. The bungalow had air con, mini bar, but no tv (not that we missed it).

The resort was well maintained and had really friendly staff. Pinky even helped us when we arrived back in koh lanta (even though she had taken the trip as a short break from work).

Resturant food was really nice, if not a little overpriced, however other resturants on island means there is a choice of price brackets.

Sea was lovely to swim in when tide is in, however a lot of coral around when tide is out which makes it difficult. We didnt realise until our last day that you can ask to borrow snorkling gear as fish were just a short swim away.

the mayalay is a nice resort with good value for money. We stayed for days in june, which is the monsoon season. It was very quiet, which was exactly what we were after... don't go there if you like the crowds of phuket or phiphi!
the staff friendly, and relatively helpfull.
The bungalow is nice and clean, pretty big with a good airco and fan and a nice big bad. we slept perfectly in this bad actually, we had our best night in thailand here.
The only thing is the boat transfer... not much transfer in the monsoon seasoon... so the mayalay staff organised a ' private transfer' to the resort, which had also staff, food for the resort and some other random people on board and they charges us 1500 bath, whereas the 'ferry' costs 350 each. Also, don't take a transfer from trang (600) but take a minivan for 60 each to Pakmeng pier.
Food is soso indeed. I do not agree with the negative reviews on tripadvisor, but if you want a party island, do come here, if you want to relax, have a beautiful beach for yourself and live in paradise for a very good price.... get here asap!
We have to say that the Thanya and especially the Coco cottages resorts looked a bit better, but both were closed for maintenance during the low season... if we come back we would try to stay here, although i think the prices are a but higher than in mayalay.
food in tapwarin (same owner as mayalay) was the best of the island (of the open resorts)
the spa is amazing by the way... very nice seafront spa, really the spa of a 5 star resort... 1 hour thai massage (which took 1.5 hours) was 400 bath.

it's a no car, no roads island btw

A nice Island, but a bad management which don't care about customers need, our i-phone get robbed by the cleaning Team in our room while we left it for 2 hours without vigilance, and nobody cares about.

The Breakfast without any fresh juices, the food full of flies.....
Overpriced!

It has other nice alternatives on the Island.

Mayalay Resort lies on the beach of Koh Ngai just front "Koh Rock"
Staff is Friendly and helpful,Buffet Breakfast is simple but good.
On the beach you will found enough restaurant to stay a week without going twice at the same (food at Mayalay is also good and not expensive)
Bungalows are getting holdies, specially the bathroom and need to be renewed (some of them are on works for that)
We stayed at a beach front Bungalow and place was fine and calm.
Easy to find Kayak ,Tuba and fins to rent on the beach.
A lot of fish to sea just in front of the resort (at low tide you can see them by foot)
Some rocks to avoid on the beach but it was OK.
We recommend a stay for some days to enjoy this little island.

We loved this place and the island. The bungalow itself is very simple and clean. Don’t expect any luxury here as this island does not offer any luxury properties. The breakfast was ok and could have been much better. The hotel didn’t offer any excursion as their boat was currently “broken” but as this island is so small they suggest us to go to another resort that we did and had a very good tour of nearby islands. In general we were very happy with our stay here and will for sure be back here.

We stayed with 2 kids for 5 days on the island Koh Ngai (Koh Hai). The island is beautiful and a paradise for those who look for peace and quiet, but can also get att little bit boring since there is noting else, no "real" life going on. Mayalay resort is beatiful with bamboo huts, and are well placed in the vicinity of the other resorts. At first sight it seems like paradise. The management though, is poor: the cleanliness of the restaurant could be questioned, with flies in the food and sour milk with the coffee, there are dogs barking through the night, loud music played in the restaurant and the cleaning of the rooms are varying from day to day. Our main impression is that the staff are well intended but not very professional and the place is overpriced.
