“Good hotell and excellent staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2012

Thanya is very well located at the beautiful beach. The staff clean the beach in front of the hotel every morning. The pool looks very good however one of the days it was dark green and not suitable for swimming and we had informed the staff. After that it was cleaned and closed until the chemicals started working. As most Thai resorts they have an expensive mandatory "gala dinner" Dec.31. Both the entertainment and food were really terrible. The staff is very friendly and service minded. The food is OK. I believe Thanya is one of the very best choices on Koh Ngai,

Really great stay, staff were fantastic and the beautiful swimming pool made Thanya a cut above the rest of the resorts we saw on the island. Only criticism was of the kayaks they loan to you which are old and defective. We tried to paddle out to the adjacent island but it filled with water, capsized and we had to swim home!! Thai health & safety at its finest. Much better to hire an excellent kayak from the dive school for 50 baht an hour which is what we did the next day. The island itself is very peaceful and beautiful and there is a fantastic coral reef right off the lovelyvsandy beach which has an abundance of fish. Would definitely return.

Very sceptical on the reported mass tourism of Phuket island, we decided to immediately after arrival get off this large island for an island hopping week of vacation. By pure chance we started with Koh (Island) Ngai (also called Hai) a bit souht of well-known Koh Lanta. After driving 4 hours by a rental car to Pak Meng Pier ( south of Krabi and south west of Trang) we took a long tail boat for and arrived lunch-time to what was regarded as the paradise.
The island has a long beach with6 tor 8 resorts and a camping site. We had selected Thanya at the far end of the beach. Being in operation for only 4 years,it was clean, open and modern architecture, but with a clear Thai touch.
Mimii and her Laos born colleague at the front desk was the most helpful and service oriented reception I ever came across, and that doesn't say a little being a business and vacation traveller for more than 35 years and seen uncountable hotels and places. Whilst we were spending time at the beach, Mimii and the crew helped us to reserve hotels at 2 other islands (Koh Bulong and Koh Mook also to be recommended) and speed boat resrvations. This while realising that this would cut our stay at their resort short.
The beach is next to nothing in terms cleaness and water quality, at never crowded. Excellent for a long stroll before breakfast or before dinner.
The " infinity" pool, with 2 whirlpool sections, was made in rustic natural materials was very beautifal and a nice supplement to the beach. The restaurant with free WI-FI, had a small but very cooked menue.
Free access to the resorts kayaks gave an extra dimension.
On row of bungalows are called beach-front, but thay are all very close to the beach.
The atmosphere on Thanya, and the whole island indeed, was very tranquil and a perfect hide away. Suprisingly, this (and also other resorts at the sland) had a great number of families with small children. But there were no teenager partying, not a single one.
But above everything else, the warmth, kindness and 100% support attitude by the hotel's front desk make it very, very easy to recommend to any, but thos looking for night life and a heft partying time. For thos I recommend anywhere at Phuket.

Give I a try, and combine with a day trip to the inhabited snorkling paradise Koh Roc and combine with visits to Koh Kradan, Koh Mook and further to the south ( only 90 min with speed boat) Koh Bulong and you will have an unforgettable vacation; but start at Koh Ngai and pick the best valued resort - and get the fantastic service for free.

Koh Ngai was a lot quieter than other islands we stayed on and we appreciated the change (although don't come expecting a desert island of course!).

The beach is good, the water great for swimming, the karst views excellent, the rainforest backdrop very pretty and its an easy long-tail trip to the Emerald Cave on Koh Mook.

If you choose Koh Ngai, then Thanya is a good choice. The beach here remains at high-tide, whereas it disappears at the Coco end of the beach.

The grounds are nice, the rooms are well-done out, the pool has a great view and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

We were actually right at the back - there have been some comments about the rooms back here on tripadvisor but we found ours fine.

We had better food at Koh Ngai Seafood Resort, but you can always just walk down the beach for dinner - no problem! The food at Thanya was decent.

The track across the island through the rainforest leaves from behind Thanya.

We stayed at Thanya twice during our trip and didn't regret that choice - the resort is nicely located at the end of the beach, peacefully and quiet with nice and clean bungalows. Personally, I would prefer if the SeaView Bungalows were right on the beach instead of having the pool inbetween, but I guess it's perfect if you have small kids you want to watch.

On our first stay, the breakfast left quite a bit to be desired, but on our second stay a week later they had already listened to feedback and greatly improved breakfast, making it the best on our whole trip!

But where the Thanya really shines is service: The hotel managers are more dedicated and concerned about the well-being of the guests than anything I've ever seen.
I was sick the first 3 days of our stay, and they would do everything to make things easier for me and my girlfriend: When she went to buy some water, they sent her back and brought us a whole tray of water bottles (which they never charged!), when she wanted to get something to eat they sent someone to the bungalow to take our order, every breakfast from there on would be brought to the bungalow and they were constantly asking if there's something they could do to make things easier for us. As soon as one of the nicer bungalows near the pool & restaurant was free they offered us to move there, making things a lot easier while I was sick.
Needless to say I would give them 6 stars for staff performance if I could :-).

Wholeheartedly recommended for everyone searching for a nice and quiet resort with an amazing staff. If you're searching for party, nightlife or shopping look somewhere else, but then you shouldn't have come to Koh Ngai to begin with :)

My boyfriend and I stayed at Thanya resort in November 2011 and LOVED the place. Generally Koh Ngai is a really quiet island with great nature and a perfect place to relax and enjoy life. During our stay, we visited a lot of resorts at Koh Ngai and Thanya was the best from our point of view. Our bungalow was well equipped, spacious, beautiful furnished and had air condition. The staff was very friendly and courteous and helped us to find great places of excursions. At the resort you can have kayaks and snorkel-equipment for free and the beach is one of the best at Koh Ngai with white sand and blue water. Like paradise. The restaurant was the best we experienced at Koh Ngai - a great value for a small price. Everything was fresh and delicious and after we tried some other restaurants at the island, we always loved to return to the Thanya restaurant, where everything was great - the food and the service. So Thanya is from all perpective the best recommendation for a stay at Koh Ngai.

the resort and island looked gorgeous as we were approaching on the boat. we had a nice welcome. someone meet us and took our bags while the manager welcomed me by name, gave us a welcome drink and explained about the island and resort. because it was end of rainy season and there werent many people we extended our stay and so they upgraded us to a seaview room. the view was beautiful looking onto a tropical garden of green grass and frangipani trees. butterflies floating around and not a sound except for the cicadas and the water lapping on the shore, the staff and manger were all smiling and friendly and helpful. the rooms were very clean and well maintained. natural rooms, all fitting well with the environment but still luxurious. snorkeling right out the front of the resort is great. restaurant and massages are well priced. great for couples wanting a quite romantic holiday in paradise and also for families who like quite and natural beauty. i can't wait to return one day it is honestly one of the best places i've ever stayed.
