My friend and I had a voucher for Spa day with champange lunch. On arrival we informed the leisure centre desk that we had arrived and were given a token to get into the pool area. We were asked what time we wanted lunch and decided on 1 pm, intending to have a bit of a swim and then a coffee about 11 before using the pool again and a leisurely read of the magazines we had brought with us before lunch and back to the pool area to sit after lunch. The pool area only has 6 lounge chairs to use by the pool and if you don't get one of those you have to sit on a bench. Not what we had planned for a relaxing spa day. The pool area is very nice and it has 2 whirl pools but children of all ages were allowed in these. Most places don't allow children to use them. It was great for families and there were lots of them in the pool, splashing about with no designated adult only area for swimming. If you want a drink you have to get dressed go out of the pool area and into the bar, which is very nice and serves hot and cold drinks but did get busy and service was pleasant but slow as only 1 person serving all the time qwe were there even over the busy lunch time. If you want to go back to the pool area you have to go back upstairs to the reception and ask for another token. Why not give people 2 tokens and explain the system on arrival? Disappointing.
Having booked lunch for 1 pm we were surprised when the pool guard came and asked if we could do lunch at 12.30 instead as they couldn't do it for 1 pm. Agreed that wasn't a problem. What did surprise us was when we arrived at the restaurant at lunch time there was no booking for us at 12.30 or 1. As we were first in we were encouraged to use a nice table by the window with glimpses of Rutland Water between the lodges. Food was nice, gastro pub type menu with about 4 choices per course and the service pleasant but as a Spa Day destination I can't recommend it. If I just wanted somewhere nice to go I would go back with my husband but it is not the place for a relaxing girly day for us.
