“Historic hotel in heart of cottage country”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013 via mobile

This 100 year old plus, hotel is past it's glory days however it does retain much of its historic charm. Much of the old dining areas inside remain the same as does the lobby. The bar areas are slightly renovated but still have that old ambiance. In the summer a large outdoors deck provides plenty of umbrella dinning. Friendly service makes this a must do to understand Bala and its history.

The Bala Bay Inn is a great place to host a weekend getaway wedding out of the city. Our guests filled up the hotel for the weekend, giving us the perfect setup for an intimate wedding in October. We had our ceremony outside on the lake at Windsor Park just a couple hundred meters down the street. Our cocktails followed in the beautiful Lux Lounge and then we had dinner in the dining room followed by dancing.

The location was beautiful at this time of year and the staff at the hotel were nothing but helpful doing everything from the planning stages until the wedding finished. Tania acts as a wedding planner and is an amazing person to help you get everything in line for your wedding. On the weekend the rest of the staff and service was all excellent, the food was delicious (even better than when we did the tasting) and everything went just as planned. I highly recommend The Bala Bay Inn if you have a wedding party of 100 or less and want to have your own "resort" for the weekend!

Once you've booked the venue, check out CarissaDidier.com for your photographer. She did a fabulous job on our photos and is super fun to work with!

I have stayed at the Bala Bay Inn twice and after the second time there is NO way I would stay here again. The rooms are mediocre at best, but not very clean and definitely not worth the price of the room. The front desk staff were rude and uninformed about hotel policies. The main issue I had with the Bala Bay is the fact that we were not told to lock our room after CHECKING OUT the next day (we just left and dropped our keys off at the front). After we had checked out the very, very small TV they have in the room was taken by another guest. The Inn immediately charged the credit card they had on file ($200 !!! No way the TV cost that much) without any warning. Moreover, when we called the Inn the clarify what the extra charge was for the staff were so rude and accusatory. Why anyone would steal a TV out of a room that had their own personal credit card on file is beyond me. The hotel had no official camera evidence of the TV being taken and they didn't tell us to lock the room after check out to avoid a situation like this. The Inn wrote a report full of FALSE information and no real evidence.

This Inn is a SCAM. They try to scam innocent people out of their money. Never would I suggest this Inn to anybody. Rude staff, scams, lies and cheap rooms all make for a hotel from hell.

DONT STAY AT THE BALA BAY INN.

Room Tip: All rooms are cheap and not worth your money.

My partner and I spent an amazing weekend at the Bala Bay Inn during the Cranberry Festival. The heritage hotel far exceeded our expectations and we were incredibly impressed by its charm and character. We would return in a heart-beat. The staff were absolutely superb! I was truly stunned by the attention to customer service, the friendliness and genuine care offered by every member of the staff and management. We loved the jazz band in the cozy lounge Friday and Saturday evenings, the food in the beautifully renovated dining room and the rooms which were clean, smartly decorated and cozy. The management has not only produced a wonderful vacation destination for tourists but established a strong community-oriented venue for those who live in Bala. We saw people playing bridge in the dining room, locals playing pool and actually met cottagers enjoying the late night jazz. I really can't say enough about the Bala Bay Inn accept that we loved it!

This May 25th Bala Bay Inn hosted our wedding. The staff at the Bala Bay Inn (particularly Tania, the event planner) were amazing. They were on top of everything which meant we just got to enjoy our wedding instead of worrying about the details. The hotel itself was a wonderful place to have our wedding as it is unique. The newly renovated lounge and big dining room helped set a perfect mood. Totally recommend this place and the staff to anyone who is looking to get married (or celebrate any major event). All of our guests also really enjoyed staying at the hotel too!

With the very limited options in Bala, this is obviously the nicest and best choice, especially it being a few steps away from the Kee. This is the reason we went up to Bala. If it weren't so difficult to find alternatives, I would rather stay somewhere else and save some money. The room was nice, it was quiet, and we had no complaints, but it definitely felt overpriced.
