We booked this trip last minute and got a very good rate.
Was hesitant with it's rating through tour operator (3.5 star) since we usually stay at a 4 or 5 star.
Honestly..I'm not going by star ratings for our future trips. The Royal Decameron was an excellent place to vacation. The food was great-drinks were good service was outstanding. We ate at the Italian (2x), Mexican & Brazilian..all were excellent! The buffets were also very good. We did request a room in Block 6 (due to it being newer) but when we checked in they did not have the request (although I had an email confirmation) The front desk acted swiftly to meet our request, but not until the next day. So we stayed in Block 5 the first night. It was clean and basic (nothing wrong with it). Upon moving to block 6.. we were very pleased. The beds were comfortable and it was a bit more modern. There are all walks of life that stay here..and everyone was real nice. The town of Bucerias was fun to go to for the day..I'd recommend Marco's restaurant. The shopping was like old days when we first started to go to Cancun..very reasonable..we bought so much (home decor). There are many many repeaters who stay here..We like to try different places, but if this ever came up on a deal again..we would not hestitate to go back there in a heartbeat.

This hotel is definately higher than a 3 star. We travelled for a week in November with 17 people in our group and we had very few complaints. The only things we noticed that we would change were: no clocks in the rooms, not a big deal but if you have reservations knowing what time it is is a plus (wake up calls can come up to half an hour before or after your requested time). The nightly shows are generally not bad but there is definately more spanish than english spoken which caused some lack of interest and even though there are no smoking signs posted throughout the outside theatre where the show is held there were constantly people who chose to ignore them. There were a couple of nights when the bugs seemed to be out more than others, nothing the resort can do to change this but bug spray isn't a bad idea. When arriving at the airport there are way too many people telling you where to go, they don't really give you a chance to figure out what is going on before herding you onto the shuttle.
On the plus side, the resort is kept very clean, there were always people working whether cleaning, doing maintenance or groundskeeping. There was never a lack of food to choose from, even the pickier eaters never went hungry. Tipping did not really seem to determine the service you received although we did it anyways as the service was generally above average and these people work long, hard hours and deserve every penny they earn.
No, you will not necessarily have the comforts of home but you have to remember that you are in Mexico to escape home. Enjoy every minute of your trip as it will be over all too soon!

Delightful. Extremely good bang for your buck here. I was gald I checked out other peoples comments first -- very helpful. All of the staff were helpful, we had some language lapses but never negative. it is clean with well kept gardens, grounds and nice beach all in all. There was a sewar smell in the room intermittantly in Building 1 --oldest beach front. Not a beach view from the first floor, between 2 busy pools and the end of this building is the outdoor show area. Beds need to have pads requested because you can feel the springs. There are hairdryers in all rooms. Always had hotwater and A/C.

We moved to Building 6 which is newer, quiet, pool and garden view, worked better for us. The beds here were heavenly. The room with the king beds has very long wide couch that would be ok for another person with out bringing in another rollaway.

Pools all have nearby bars -- great pools here. Great beach, lots of palapas. Never a problem getting chairs and whatever amount of sun or shade you wanted.

Food is quite good for local and a mix of buffett--tons of fresh fruit, endless bowls of guacamole. A fish and 3 meats every night --rice, pasta. More like home style. Grills for one or two meats in the eve and your eggs/omlettes every morning. The Thai alacart was so so.

Not too many venders. Family oriented and NICE people atmosphere -- even the tourists were mellow. Tacky/fun evening shows. Disco did not do it for our 20 somethings thery preferred the bar and the 11 pm snak food.

PV is really congested. Not worth the trip into town. bucerias is a pleasant 10 block walk to enough of a flea market and then a few shops without the hassel. (Sorry-there are some nice galleries and shops in PV and if you stay south of the Cuale River off the malecon and towards the Center of town you will have the nicest time there, but it ia a good 45 min into town these days.)

This was our second trip to this resort. Stayed 2 weeks in Oct 2006, and 2 weeks in Nov 2007. Thank God we didn't book for only 1 week. The Decameron is great value. The buffets and restaurants offer a huge selection. We discovered that the menu is different at each buffet on any given night. Fiesta night is a blast... but watch out for the tequila!!

There were a few improvements since our visit. My only disappointment was the new location of the internet stations. Not a big deal, I just didn't use them. We had a great time with the pottery. Santiago and Vincente were great! As usual, the staff were very friendly and a lot of fun.

The resort is ideally situated for excursions... BUT TAKE THE LOCAL BUS! It is worth the 10 pesos! Enjoy being in Mexico! We frequented a Tostada's cart in Bucerias... fantastic! Also many trips to PV, Sayulita. Booked all of our excursion off site. Resort may be helpful, but the trips are costly. Scott's (Bucerias) has slightly better prices, but you can get even cheaper if you look for it.

Overall... great place for the $$$. Highly recommend for all. We are sure to go back... maybe Fall 2008.

What a great experience. We got a third floor front view room. The beach is clean and the water is calm, a total surprise for a Pacific Ocean Bay town. The locals are friendly and warm, and the entire town is built to satisfy the tourist's needs. The hotel is packed with Canadians and Americans, a great mix of Spanich from the locals, english from the americans and some canadians, and french from the people from Montreal. Great pools, never too croweded, water sea sports are always available, food is great, 7 different restaurants, etc etc etc. My wife and I can wait to go back!!!
