Owner description: Take a tour into the past and discover the secrets of lost civilizations. Although similar in size and appearance to the Stonehenge on Salisbury plain, Stonehenge Aotearoa is not a replica. It is a complete and working structure designed for its precise location in New Zealand.

“GREAT EXPERIENCE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

The guide was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. Highly recommend the guided tour, as the guide shared with us a wealth of information that we would have missed out on if we had on gone for the trek.

Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated. We love what we are doing but could not keep it up without the wonderful responses we get from visitors. You are right, a guided tour is definitely the best way to experience the henge. The storytelling and personal touch bring it alive. We look forward to seeing you again.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

What a clever idea to create an image of Stonehenge. It sits in the hills and looks quite magestic and has been well put together.

“Learn how Stonehenge works and enjoy stunning views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

Stonehenge Aotearoa is beautifully situated on a hill a ten-minute drive out of Carterton. We didn't do the tour, which we had planned initially but it didn't work out with our plans, but we went there anyway. Upon arrival, a staff member gave us a quick presentation of the place which included a five-minute video explaining in an easy-to-grasp kind of way how Stonehenge Aotearoa actually works. We then walked around looking at the stones and formations we'd seen in the video, and we also used a map we'd been given, and although we missed out on the actual tour, I felt that the quick presentation was sufficient in order to get a basic understanding of how this works. I would love to do the tour in the future, though.

All in all, it was money well spent. Moreover, the view is stunning and if you're lucky and there's no haze in the far distance, you can see for miles and miles.

The views are beautiful and it is interesting how they change with the seasons. The henge seems to frame the view. The Stones Trek is a good taster for people who don't know quite what to make of the idea of a henge. Many people return for the full tour.

“Had a lovely Night.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

So yesterday was Equinox so they had a day of events to celebrate, my friends and i went to the stargazing portion of the day which was about 7pm, we got there late because we got a bit lost on the way, but we had plenty of time. If you're going you want the tour because otherwise you don't really know what you're looking at, we learnt about the constellations and then as part of equinox we got to look through all their telescopes at the moon, stars and the closer galaxies. Was a lovely night, if only we'd wrapped up warmer! Then i would have stayed for hours.

I'm going to see the real thing in a few months, and this was a great warm up. Worth the money. There isn't a fee to see the place, but there is for the tour.

When we run other events such as the Equinoxes and Solstices or Spring and Autumn Fairs the henge is just part of the venue. People like to try out their instruments in the henge or dance or just socialise and that is fine. At other times there is a charge to go to the henge. I like both sorts of events because I like to see people enjoying themselves and exploring the henge in different ways.

“WAITAKERE LADIES' PROBUS CLUB AND FRIENDS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

Recently, 31 club members and friends visited this outstanding venue which is a Must See when in this part of NZ. An interesting video presentation followed by easy walking to the 'henge, which is most impressive. Kay told us about the history of the 'henge and its place in astronomy as well as explaining the reasons for the placement of the stones. Our visit was all too short, due to time constraints, but it is certainly worth it. Various options and prices are available upon request.

Thank you for this review. Your enthusiasm helps us to stay enthusiastic. We love to share our appreciation of the knowledge of our ancestors. People often want the tours to go on and on but time is always a factor when visiting different venues, so we try to stick to the programme. so they can keep to their timetable.
