“Good hotel in a small town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

It was only a one night stay as we were only visiting a friend. The room was a standard 2 queen bedroom for NZ99 per night. Parking for the car was available and you can actually park infront of your room as the hotel is only a single story establishment. So this is handy if you want to easily off load things from your car to your room.

Hotel has a swimming pool, mini entertainment area with a couple if arcade game machines for the kids and a restaurant that apparently has a good reputation for it's food.

A no hassle, clean and comfortable hotel recommended to all of you are planning on a short stay in Masterton.

Fantastic stay being able to have the wedding, reception, drinks, accommodation and breakfast all at the one place. Nothing was too much trouble for the housekeepers and reception was great. Only bad thing was staff at Bar need to watch who is at bar first for service.
Also could hear others slamming their doors shut down the corridor during the night.

Room Tip: Room overlooking the pool

Thank you for your positive comments. We are pleased you had a lovely stay and enjoyable wedding at the hotel. It is regrettable that you found service at the bar slow, I have passed your comment onto the Food and Beverage Manager. We hope you will come and stay again in the future. With regards Jerry Crump.

We booked in for a one night stay, as a stop over for our family holiday. We booked through Wotif & once we'd settled in we thought "hang on, we have paid to have kitchen facilities" so that necessitated a move to the unit with the kitchen facilities. Very clean & tidy. We would certainly stay again. The children very much enjoyed the grounds & playgrounds to let off some energy.

Value for money compared to other Motels we stayed in. Very helpful and friendly staff, clean rooms with comfortable bed. Would stay there again. The cafe and bar food was excellent. Good laundry facilities. Staff were helpful with left belongings in our room.

Room Tip: Superior king room.

Spent Christmas in the hotel (while visiting family) and the hotel is in the "OK" category. It really needs to decide if it is a hotel (at hotel prices) or a motel (charging hotel prices).

Staff in bar and restaurant were friendly enough. The lady who checked us in was just clueless, and could not even answer simple questions about the hotel (bar closing time over holiday, laundry costs etc)

Bar closed at 10.15pm on Christmas Eve and other residents had to ask to be re-opened, the hotel did so for "one drink only" ! Back to the theme of "are you a hotel or motel"?

Rooms are large and of a very good standard motel.

Our second stay in this hotel in 3 years, and equal "OK" experience in both cases

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are disappointed to hear you had just an 'ok' stay at the hotel. I have passed you comments on to the appropriate staff regarding the service you received at reception and The Bar. We are a Qualmark rated 4 star plus hotel and are proud of the large array of facilities located within the resort and are in the constant process of upgrading. We hope you will come and stay again in the future. With regards Jerry Crump.

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of our spacious junior suite, which comprised two rooms (one with a king size bed and the other two singles, both with televisions) separated by a short corridor, a bathroom and a separate toilet. There was some noise from neighbouring units.

From a family friendly perspective the resort included a playground, confidence course and two swimming pools, one indoor and one out.

Impacting the overall rating is lack of attention to detail including a number of cobwebs in the toilet, knee high thistles and other weeds around the front and back decks, and a largely dead lawn in the secluded area behind the junior suites. Although the shower had excellent water pressure neither drain in or outside the shower were designed to cope, resulting in a flooded bathroom.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay in the junior suite and the children had fun at the playground and pools. I have alerted the grounds keeper to the garden area around the suite and apologise for this slip in maintenance. We hope you will come and stay again in the future. With regards Jerry Crump.

Much better value and level of services available at this large property than any of the other local Motels. $99.00 for a family unit, spacious, clean and had about 2 acres of play area for the kids. High end restaurant and excellent service from the staff. Nice fresh apples available for free. We had visited this Hotel before as part of a work function and it was a pleasure to be there. They do need to be careful to make sure the property doesn't slip down the ladder as it is so large that it must always be a challenge to keep everything up to date. Easy to recommend and we will make this our place of choice to stay at in that area from now on.
