Our last shore tour was from the port of Kusadasi Turkey with Curio travel (Ephesus Shuttle). The owner, Fevzi Turhan, has 18 years of experience doing private shore tours and his staff is outstanding. (www.ephesusshuttle.com). He always responded quickly to our emails and did a great job in arranging a private shore tour for 60 people. The guides and Mr Turhan met us at the dock and escorted us to our waiting buses. He had arranged for us to have (2) very nice forty person buses for our group of 60 persons. This gave us plenty of room and it also gave us the option of splitting up later in the day when part of the group wanted to shop and part did not.
From the port they quickly transported us to Ephesus and we were among the first buses to the Ephesus site. We could not have been happier with their tour.
Our tour of Ephesus included the Terrace Houses (not to be missed) As we came out of the Terrace Houses (we were about half way through the site) we could look back towards the entrance and see hoards of people arriving. We left just as the site was filling up and drove to Mother Mary’s house.
Many of the tours go to Mother Mary’s house first, so by the time we arrived it was virtually empty and quite peaceful and lovely. Later we had a delicious lunch under the trees at one of the “Rug factories”, but it was well worth it. Prior to lunch they did interesting presentation on rug making. No hard sell and the lunch was outstanding. The tour was half the price of the ship’s tour and we had a lot of flexibility. At the end of the tour we stopped at a leather factory. Surprisingly, it was okay. Be prepared to bargain hard and do your homework if you are in the market for a leather jacket or coat. They were not cheap by any means.
