Having just visited the magnificent Kirkham Priory, we drove the short distance up the hill to the Stone Trough Inn. Initial impression - a very pretty, well cared for building and, as we discovered, an equally elegant & quirky interior. It was such a lovely warm Sunday lunchtime that we sat out on the terrace and enjoyed the beauty of the Howardian Hills. Knowing we were going to feast in York that evening, we chose 2 different salad dishes - a smoked duck & toasted pine nut salad with an orange dressing; and a pigeon & bacon salad - both really tasty. The staff were really attentive, prompt and very courteous. We shall definitely be returning for an evening there!
