We have just returned from a Ski holiday in La Thuile as a family of 4 joined by another family of 4 to make 8 and a further family of 3 wednesday to Saturday to make 11, no children under 11. We stayed at the Miramonte. The Hotel itself is very nice, has a cosy chalet feel, it's nicely decorated and the food was really nice. We stayed bed and breakfast only but ate in the hotel 3 times for dinner choosing the 4 course half board menu at 30euros a head not including drinks which was perfectly nice and not bad value compared with the prices to eat out in local restaurants. One of the three receptionist was very troubled by our request for a table of 8 at short notice and said that a table for 11 was impossible even with 24 hours notice, his customer service was not friendly at all, the other two were fine though. The service in the restaurant was very good and the staff were all really friendly there. Our rooms were classed as 'superior' but not much superior about them, pretty basic really and quite small but they had a nice view over the river. The beds were really comfortable and the rooms were very clean and seemed to be soundproof enough so no disturbed nights. The main criticism of the rooms is that the temperature in the rooms was stiflingly hot most of the time and there didn't seem to be any obvious way of turning it down, also the water pressure from the shower is pathetic so no chance of having a vigorous hot shower after a days skiing, more like a dribble of inconsistently hot water to clean you to a basic level. Our kids twin room had a bath which was a bonus and I recommend requesting a room with a bath when booking, their room was much bigger too. We spent most evenings, pre and post dinner chatting amongst our collective families in the bar lounge which was nice and cosy, pleasantly decorated. The worst thing about the whole holiday was the guy who runs the bar. On the first day we were there we saw him tell a large party of guests off for being too many people using one table and they were visibly uncomfortable with the way he spoke to them, as if they were children. Another night he told me off like a naughty child for putting my feet on a footstool!!! Our whole party was shocked at his attitude. Another time we wanted to catch the last of the sunset and have our drinks on the outside terrace but he told us too sternly that we could not be served drinks on the terrace because he was only in shirt sleeves. His manner often seemed angry slamming things down on the table and tutting when we asked for anything extra, we all agreed that he was making us feel like unwelcome intruders rather than welcome, paying guests.
We didn't try the spa so can't comment on that. The shuttle service from the boot/ski store room was excellent and we rarely had to call for the shuttle to collect us at 16.30 for return, he was usually waiting for us at the bottom of the gondola.
