“Cosy, comfy & value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2012

My sister and I recently stayed for a few days at this beautiful B & B. Our hosts (Caroline and Arnold and their son Stephen) went out of their way to cater for all of our needs. Somehow they manage to strike the perfect balance between being friendly enough to show personal interest in our day-to-day activities and interests and being sensitive enough to retire to their own space and make us feel completely free to do our own thing. The place was clean, tidy and well appointed and the breakfast each morning on the font deck was a magic time as we took in the breathtaking views of Manly beach.

Room Tip: Room 1 is quite big and well positioned with views.

Beautiful setting, food excellent, clean rooms cared for well, proprietors really lovely people. Made us feel welcome from start to go & nothing seemed to much trouble for them. They went the extra mile for us. Peaceful & relaxing stay. A real haven for our needs at the time. I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone wanting a friendly & peaceful environment to stay in.

Room Tip: Ask for larger room looking out to the sea.

Lovely stay with view of the bay at breakfast from their balcony terrace. Only a short visit for two nights - wished it could have been more - with a nice bit of pampering. We were wonderfully looked after by the hosts with a lovely welcome pack of snacks and wine, an invitation to join them for dinner with other guests overlooking the bay (small charge), and scrumptious breakfasts 'to order'. We had the smallest room (Room 3) but this was more than adequate for our short stay and very comfortably furnished.

It is only a short walk to either Big Manly or Little Manly Beaches and a few local shops with take-aways and restaurants. Plenty of stunning scenery nearby. A lucky find.

Room Tip: There are only three rooms and all priced accordingly. Room 1 is the largest.

Though our flight for Australia was delayed and we did not arrive at Bayview Manly B&B until late in the evening Carolyn was up and waiting for us with a welcoming smile. This B&B was wonderful: our room, with attached bathroom, was very clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were tailored to our likes and were very good. We stayed for three nights and wished we could have stayed longer.

It was a pleasure "pampering" you - pleased to be able to help a little after all you'd endured having had our wonderful Christchurch tumble down around you.

We wanted a place not far from the Auckland airport for our first night in NZ. We had planned our next day visiting Tiritiri Matangi island, a 5 star destination for birders and those interested in native vegetation of New Zealand. The Bayview is very close to the Gulf Harbour ferry to Tiritiri, and they will make all your arrangements..
The deal they offer on the website (in late 2010) is "from $233 NZ" for a package including room, breakfast, packed lunch, and tickets to Tiritiri. This is presumably only for low season. On booking, we found the mid-priced room cost $185 NZ and the two ferry tix to Tiritiri add $98 (or $88 for seniors). Even the cheapest room ($165) would have totaled $263.
Our room was very clean and comfortable, but tiny. The private bathroom was across the hall, not ensuite. Our window was facing the street and close to the main road, so it was a bit noisy. The small fridge two feet from the bed added to the noise. (Admittedly, we are very noise sensitive.) For comparison, we paid $140/night for a large, beach front motel/condo in the Bay of Islands and $150 for a truly luxurious homestay B&B less than an hour southeast of the airport.
Breakfast was ample, with cereal, good fresh fruit, and a cooked plate. The lunch provided for the day trip was adequate if nothing special. The owner was ill and not there, but the two men working for her went out of their way to be helpful and friendly.
Bottom line is that for convenience in getting to Tiritiri Matangi island, the Bayview Manly is excellent. Otherwise, if I were just looking for a stopoff on the way to the Bay of Islands, I'd look for some place cheaper.
I should add that there is an excellent Indian restaurant in walking distance, along with Italian and Cajun (!).

Thank you for your kind review. We are sorry that you were disappointed with the cost. The "Tiri Package from NZ$233" in 2010 was for a single person @ winter rates, staying in our Tiri (Room 3) and one trip to Tiritiri Matangi Island which included a guided tour of the island, plus a packed lunch. Wishing you well and hoping the rest of your holiday in New Zealand was a pleasant one.

Staying here is very handy to get access to the centre. Our room was clean and comfortable and the bed was 100% pure comfort.Guests can opt for breakfast on the veranda if desired, breakfast is good and tasty. We were made welcome and enjoyed welcoming drinks and nibbles in the early evening out on the veranda.
