“Comfort and welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014 via mobile

We were welcomed with a glass of iced herbal, refreshing tea. Both of the owners could not have been more accommodating. The room itself is clean and comfortable with sensational views. A very quiet area with village atmosphere and a fabulous walk through Shakespear sanctuary at Troys suggestion. Also visited Heron's Flight Winery - great Sangiovese, cheese factory and then Morris and James. Thanks Troy for your guidance

Dear Rhonda

Thank you for making time to write your lovely comments here. Really glad you enjoyed your stay and the views from the Premium View Suite. As you mentioned they are beautiful from sunrise to sunset (and thanks for posting the photo!). I am glad you decided to take up my suggestions on the tour of Puhoi Cheese factory, Heron's Flight winery and Morris & James Pottery. I do this many times when travelling north.
Hope to see you again sometime when you are back!
Kind regards
Troy Clarry

Very friendly and helpful reception. Our room was surprisingly large. The bed was very comfortable. It was clean and everything was very thoughtfully provided, including a cooling welcome drink. A separate area comprising of an indoor dining room and out door dining terrace has been provided for people who wish to buy take-away food and eat at the lodge. Although the lodge is just of a fairly busy road, we did not hear the traffic noise. Across this road was the sea. The upstairs rooms would have a fabulous view. Further up the road there is a small parade of restaurants and shops. It is a very convenient location. Remembering this is Auckland, it is good value for money.

Room Tip: First floor, sea view with balcony. There would be traffic noise with the door open.

Dear Rozlyn

Thank you for making the time to write your comments. They will be very useful for guests looking for accommodation in the area. Glad you enjoyed what we have to offer while you were here. Next time we can look to have your stay upstairs so you can also enjoy the views from there as well at the terrace.

We stayed here after a concert, the manager was very helpful and accommodating as we had limited time windows to check in prior to the event we were attending.
Loved the personalised note left for us in our room - it's the little things that make a place stand out.

Great from A-Z: lovely location, friendly owners, clean and well serviced. We stayed 3 days and wish it could have been longer. Excellent base for trips to Auckland and lots of beaches and fantastic views around Whangaparoa.

I booked a month for my German parents in law at Whangaparoa Lodge. They are still raving about it. Not only was their room of a high standard and meticously cleaned daily (important for Germans) the hosts, Troy and Tomoko, went above and beyond to ensure their stay was a memorable one. This is the kind of service and care you seldom find in the hospitality industry. I noticed, on one my many visits they also extend this to all their guests. I wonder how they manage to keep it up but have come to the conclusion that they are just wonderful people. Great facilities and abnormally good service, will be recommending the lodge to all who need accomodation here.

Thank you for the glowing comments. As mentioned when they were leaving us we thrive on giving our best service to those who appreciate it - and you parents from Germany were so much fun to have around - even the other guests enjoyed them too! It really made Christmas and New Year like 1 big family.
We look forward to remaining in touch and hope that we can them again in the years to come.
Kind regards
Troy & Tomoko

Highly recommend this accommodation. We couldn't get in to our usual accommodation and had to go further afield. What an awesome find. Manager (Troy) blew us away with his kindness and generosity to ensure our comfort and needs were met. Room was spacious and well maintained.
Only downside was the location on a corner with traffic through the night and having to cross the busy street to the beach. WE loved this accommodation and will be returning on our future visits to the area instead of staying at our usual place.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper level have balcony space for sitting and viewing the ocean.

Thank you for your comments! It was also a pleasure to have met you while you stayed with us and nice to see that we will see you again in our Little Manly Beach location.
Maybe you might want to try our 1 bedroom executive suite on the corner of the building where we have installed double glazing to reduce the sounds from outside.
But it is nice also to hear the waves on the beach once the traffic slows down for the night.
Look forward to seeing you again soon
With kind regards
Troy & Tomoko

We stayed for a long, 4 day weekend in a second floor room. The Lodge has come along way from its motel origins, and progressing well with Troy's redefining casual luxury vision.

The double room was really large, clean, modern, and comfortable rooms, with a view of the harbour and Rangitoto. The bathroom again modern to a high standard could be described as overly spacious! The kitchen was really well equipped., the old squeezy sponge was the only point that would loose points!

With one small intimate beach across the road, many more beaches wherever you look, the village and its shops and fab Thai restaurant round the corner and a regional park at the end of the peninsula all make for a great break.

Troy is an attentive host, an eye for detail and nothing too much bother.

I would thoroughly recommend Whangaparoa Lodge and would stay again.

Thank you for the wonderful detailed comments. Great that you enjoyed our 1 Bedroom Executive Suite. Perfect for your 4 day get-a-way as you have some space to move around in and also your private balcony with excellent views.
I'm glad you saw and understood the casual luxury concept and your comments help to ensure that we are on the right track. The "spacious" bathrooms we are also looking to make even better for the winter so stay tuned :)
One of our favourite restaurants is also Maison Thai so pleased that you loved the food there.

Look forward to seeing you again soon for another get-a-way!
Kind regards
Troy & Tomoko
