“Loved it....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We stayed only the one night, arrived late and left early.
What wonderful owners, Betty stayed open for us, showed us around and made sure we were happy.
The facilities are wonderful. The roosm are basic and small as would expect in a sporting lodge with a communal kitchen and lounge.
Woudl recommend and stay again

we stayed for one night as we were passing through on a motorcycling trip. Very easy to find, great location. Close to main road and yet tucked back and very quiet. Secure off street parking. we were able to park our bikes out of sight from passers by on the street The property backs onto native bush and the river, along which there is a nice track to follow into town, only 10mn away on foot. We had a double room with ensuite ; very minimal, basic, clean and functional, with bath and bed linen provided. Similar set up to camping ground cabins but a motel feel, with a common kitchen and lounge for guests to use. The room was not very spacious but as we were there only to spend the night and were travelling light, it suited our needs. The owners are nice and welcoming.we would stay there again for an overnight but would consider a larger room for longer stays.

Recently stayed for just one night with family. Would have quite happily stayed for more as the place is fantastic and not just for those hunting and fishing. The owners were so friendly and the rooms, although basic, were spotlessly clean and functional. The kitchen was immaculate and the lounge was a lovely place to relax in of an evening. The position of this place is fantastic as you can easily walk out onto the river walk where we saw a multitude of different birds and wildlife. Lovely little town too with all of th amenities that you could want. We would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

Room Tip: From what we saw, all rooms are great

My husband and I recently stayed at the Sportsmans Lodge and loved the rustic and friendly feel of the place. The owners are very nice and they have an awesome "guard dog" named Blue who loves belly rubs. The rooms are minimal, but well-maintained and guests are provided with the essential (towels, hand soap, bed, clean sheets). There is a community kitchen with all the basics, a library/game room to relax in, and onsite laundry facilities. This is a great place for travellers who are in the area for tramping, fishing, or general outdoor recreation.

This is. Really great place in Turangi. The rooms and kitchen are spotless clean, the owners are great and really helpful. It's in a great location right by the river so great for walks, fishing and just general chilling out. Perfect place to roost when exploring Taupo and Tongariro.

What a fantastic find! We saw the lodge had good reviews on Tripadvisor so decided to book in for a night. It was such a lovely spot we booked in for another night.
The couple who run it were so friendly and helpful and made us feel right at home.
It was very clean and organised with good facilities both in the shared kitchen and shared lounge.
Our room was small but perfect for us as we were out and about during the day. It is in a good location as we could walk to the local pub which served good and well priced food. But the shops are just down the road too so easy either way.

The Sportsmans Lodge provided us with simple, good value accommodation for a night on our journey up the island to Rotorua. The room, though small, had all that we required and the shared kitchen and lounge provided useful additional facilities. The setting, close to the river, provided an enjoyable early-evening walk on our way to the nearby restaurant. The owner was extremely helpful and hospitable.
