“Making us feel at home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2011

Richard and Shirley-Ann were exxxtremely nice and helpful.
We were received like friends and celebrated Xmas with them. Richard fixed my wife's broken hiking shoe - it worked for the remaining three weeks stay in New Zealand - and Shirley-Ann cooked, baked and even did the washing for our son (and refused to be paid for the extra service). Food, drinks and companionship were great. I learnt a bit about Cricket - although I still don't understand the rules - and will always remember them as the nicest of all the wonderful places we have been during our four weeks of travelling.

Definitely the best staying of our holiday.
The house has been lately renewed - everything is brand new.
A cosy, bright, ample, extraordinary clean suite, with even a room for the baggages and
with a view over the lake. The bathroom is wide with a powerful shower.
We were pampered by Shirley-Ann with delicious cakes, she used to 'forget' every day on the small table of our room.
Richard showed us all the best fishing spots on the rivers nearby and arranged the bookings for the Tongariro crossing.
Shirley-Ann is a very good cook even for our (italian) standards and we won't forget those evening meals, savouring Shirly-Ann titbits, sipping a good kiwi red wine and talking with them and the other guests.
Shirley-Ann and Richard, beside being very nice and friendly people,
beside making you at ease and treating you as one of the family,
they are very proficient in their job and even willing to improve.
It has been painful to say them good-bye after only 3 days of our staying.

Shirley-Ann and Richard were the perfect hosts, warm and welcoming without being intrusive: we arrived on a public holiday which meant that local restaurants were closed, so having checked that out, a BBQ was prepared and served for all guests in the house - seven altogether, which made for a friendly evening of international chatter and friendship - just what BandB is all about in our view.

We would love to keep this place to ourselves but it just would not be fair!
The room is lovely (fantastic bed, nice bathroom, great decoration and spotless ) and you have coffee-making facilities.
The hosts, Sherley-Ann and Richard did everything they could to make our stay comfortable and welcoming - and we most certainly did feel welcome (thanks so much).
If we had known what we know today we would have booked 1 or 2 additional nights because this place is a gem.
Sherley-Ann and Richard run the best B&B we have ever visited.

We stayed at Kahotea House for 2nights, before and after the Tongariro Crossing. Shirley-Ann and Richard couldn't do enough for us, it was more like staying with friends, than in a B&B. Rooms were well decorated, clean, spacious and had views of the lake. A real gem, we would definately go back!
