“Great Character”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Monday evening outside a small Bay of Plenty town is not usually the time you would find any kind of restaurant open much less one as good as the Forta Leza just south of Katikati. This very interesting themed restaurant was once a dairy factory and was converted to a restaurant in the early 70s, It hasn't changed much since then and I hope it doesn't. It has character more in keeping with the Hobbit's Middle Earth than anything else I could think of. Our young server was bar lady, waiter, wine steward and cashier. She also did the dessert. The service was great the food was good and reasonable value. Overall it was a very pleasant experience in a very interesting place.

“An old dairy factory made into a Restaurant & Bar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

We take the kids here for dinner. We have always enjoyed the food. Some times my husband and I have just gone for our date night, a meal, drink and a flitter on the machines is a great night out.

“FORTA LEZA - it's your country local!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

Step through the door and you step into a different world. Certainly not one of bright light, chrome, glass and black leather of a modern city restaurant; but rather dark and rustic and very much in the style of an old rural English pub – shades of Emmerdale Farm. A building of so many nooks and crannies that one could become lost, or hide away from the rest of the patrons.
Local legend has it the owners have been there for over 30 years and some of the patrons have been coming back again and again for about the same time.

The service is cheerful and friendly, but don’t expect to be asked for your drink order, the wine list is on your table and you ask. Certainly not pushy service, just friendly country pub style.
When it comes to prices expect to pay average restaurant rates like starters from $8 to $15 and mains from $25 to $35 but be prepared for generous servings of wholesome if dated menu items, but then who would turn down a huge steak with all the trimmings. You don’t need to order side dishes to give you a complete meal.

Overall nobody should leave Forta Leza with an empty feeling – hearty generous food from an age of real restaurant meals!

“Different and atmospheric”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2012

We have eaten lunch here on several occasions and have always found the food good, plentiful and well cooked. Forta Leza is rather different from most restaurants, it is like stepping back about 20-30 years but in a nice way. The service people are always friendly and the outdoor eating area very attractive, the doll museum upstairs is also well worth a look - as I say it is rather different from the usual run of restaurants, but good value for money and good food.
