I don’t expect much from country town eating places, especially those situated on main roads, but I was pleasantly surprised. The setting is pure hotel bar, but it’s clean, spacious, and the fittings are above average. Faced with a menu that was mostly pizza and country standards, I opted for a Thai prawn salad, that was served promptly (to be fair, I was the only customer, and it was just before midday), plentiful, and delicious. They also offered a nice variety of good NZ wines. If you’re on the road in the vicinity, it’s definitely worth checking out.
