Booking a honeymoon is possibly a bigger decision than choosing your wedding dress, knowing full well that you could be eternally niggled by the photographs showing how you got it just a little bit wrong! Hence I stuck to tradition and opted for the surprise, leaving the decision making up to my new husband. Frankly he struck gold, and we have just returned from the most incredible honeymoon in Parrot Cay that exceeded our expectations in every way.
We started our trip in Miami, where we spent 4 days. We then flew off to the glorious Turks and Caicos, for a 9 night stay at the very exclusive COMO Parrot Cay. From the moment we were met at the airport you just knew that you were heading to paradise. The greeting was polite and informed, they take every effort to know your name and to remember the special details, and this was true of our entire stay. You are transferred to a private jetty, where upon arrival you are met with smiles and cold flannels, you are instantly struck by the divine aroma of the Como Shambhala spa oils, which radiate around the room. It is a smell that you will certainly want to take home with you, so that you can remember your holiday daily. You are invited to take a home baked cookie, or have a drink. Very quickly we were led to the boat and transferred to the Island, which is about a thirty-minute ride. We were met at the dock by Fillipe - who is the Assistant Manager, we were greeted so warmly, and then we were taken to our rooms, with a Parrot Cay cocktail in hand.
COMO has got it so right. Nothing is pretentious, it is paired back shabby chic at its very best. Every piece of furniture is carefully chosen so that it offers absolute luxury, without all of the needless gadgets, that you simply don't need on a Caribbean island. Imagine whitewashed paneling with beautiful cotton sheets. The bathrooms are perfect, with a bath and shower. You also have the delicious Shambhala products to use daily. Everyone wafts around the resort smelling as though they have just stepped out of a spa- incredible.
The sand is white and the sea is bright blue, and crystal clear- it truly is a paradise island. You can walk around the island, but a gentle stroll up and down the beach seemed to suffice once you we were in the relaxed zone. The beach beds are perfectly luxurious and if you needed anything then you simply stuck a flag at the bottom of the bed and someone came to help. We were even handed Lychee ice pops in the afternoon, just as a refresher!
The food is amazing. There are two restaurants; a fine dining and then a slightly more relaxed Asian fusion restaurant. We split our time between the two. But we couldn't fault either. There was so much choice, and I truly believe that if you couldn't find what you fancied then they would cook something up especially for you. They would bend over backwards to help you in everything. Breakfast is incredible, a buffet with all sorts of delicious homemade fare, you could also order from the menu, with an array of mouthwatering options. The joy of the food is that you can choose between two menus throughout your stay, either from the conventional menu or from the spa menu, which offered a healthier alternative that by no means made you feel as though you were sacrificing. The drinks menu was equally good, they had lots of options, including skinny cocktails. Every girl's dream!
On our second day we went to the Spa, which is the most unbelievable experience. It is set in breath taking surroundings overlooking the ocean. It is a tranquil retreat that makes you feel relaxed, inspired and re-energised. I highly recommend the Como Shambhala Bath, it was two hours of pure indulgence. After a body scrub, I lay in a bath, soaking up the incredible view of the sea, which was then followed by a massage. The spa is an absolute must. You have to take the time to go there and enjoy every moment. You should also consider the yoga and meditation that is available twice daily, a fantastic way to feel good about yourself on holiday.
We used the gym, which was the well equipped. We used the tennis courts, which were fantastic and I even ran around the island on the Parrot Cay running trail. We also went paddle boarding and there are windsurfers and Hobie cats to take out too. There is plenty to do when you tire of utter relaxation on the beach or by the pool.
We really couldn’t have hoped for more, and just when we thought it couldn’t get better we moved from our ocean view room to a one-bed beach bungalow. It was beyond amazing. We had our own plunge pool, decking, sun beds and secluded beach. We spent the last three days thinking that we were the luckiest couple on earth to be enjoying such amazing hospitality and surroundings. We couldn’t have hoped for a better honeymoon and we couldn’t recommend it more. It is a romantic paradise island that allows you to fully relax in sublime surroundings with an attentive team of people to look after your every whim.
It is now our mission to visit each of the COMO hotels around the world, Bali is our next stop.
If you can, opt for the beach bungalow for total privacy and luxury. Otherwise a room with a sea vie...
