“Blissful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

This little hidden gem is a great spot for people looking for a low key, un-resort like vacation. You will get great service from the owners and their staff, they are extremely attentive and friendly. The beach is amazing, the water was great, although not totally flat or smooth. There's a fair amount of wind on that side of the island, but beautiful either way. Great snorkeling too. The little town has more donkeys than people. We were there in early June and it was low season. Not a huge variety of food to choose from which was a little disappointing, but each of the 3 restaurants had their own charm. The bungalows are really nice, first class in my opinion. There are 4 on the beach, two in each structure. If it's just two couples, for example, they're good about dividing them into the two buildings, so you have more privacy. If by chance you end up with another couple (or family) next door to you, I can imagine the seclusion would feel compromised some. We spent a fortune on bringing food over from Provo. If we had to do it over again and if it weren't low season, I'd probably just have all the meals on the island. We rented a golf cart which was great. If you're more athletic, I'd say rent bikes. I recommend hiking around the island perimeter, there's a different feel for every coast on the island.

Room Tip: They're all great!

Thanks for the great review! Castaway is for those who want to "get off the grid"...however there is high speed internet access and one of the finest beaches in the world right out your door.

At Porter's we strive to provide the unexpected for a small remote island. Our new menu and updated web site will go "live" the end of August 2013.

Thanks again for visiting Salt Cay!

We stayed in Castaway this last easter time and we had such a great holiday that we absolutely want to come back during Xmas.
Great beach and sea just 10 steps from the property.
Incredible long walks without anyone for miles. And good fishing too....
The island is wild and with a great nature.
Lovely dinners with Porter and the good company of locals on his restaurant. It's like to go back in the past where everything is good and simple.
Our young guys loved it too, so happy to be in contact with the whales, the ospreys, the dolphins, the horse-eyed jacks, the barracuda and the terrible snappers too strong for them.
See us soon Porter !

Bucket list. We were there off season & had the island to ourselves, literally. Located on the island's beautiful North Beach, there was nothing but us , the blue green water & a soft white beach. That said, don't come here looking to get a resort. No shopping spree at a duty free Mall. no big grocery. No cars. We traveled in our rented golf cart everywhere. But full service. Anything we needed, asked for, we had. Our "Shipwreck #1" was a divine unit up off the beach. Well decorated, clean, full kitchen. Good snorkeling right there too. Can't wait to go back

Room Tip: Remote in the best of ways King bed. Full kitchen . Nice breeze even in the bathroom . Right on t...

Castaways is heaven on earth. The beach that is only a few feet away is world class. Durning the week there we didn't find another set of footprints as we walked along the white sand. A pleasant breeze all day long and the three ceiling fans made for peaceful nights. Continental breakfast was a real plus. The staff will help you with your needs and questions.
Castaway's is for those who want to, keep it simple, fall in love, recharge the batteries, whale watch (in season) read books, snorkel, fly a kite, stare gaze.
If your looking to be entertained please go some place else and leave the rest of us alone :)

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, steps from the beach. We luv off season =less people:)

We wanted to find a place totally off the charts and this was it . Beautiful, quiet and amazing.
Leave everything at home and enjoy being someplace special. The rooms have a kitchen and want to cook you might want to bring food from Provo. However the restaurant is really really good.

Room Tip: There are only 4 rooms and they are all the same. The rooms are way out on the end of the island. Yo...

We had a wonderful time on Salt Cay and the Castaway was fantastic! The beach was what heaven must be like, beautiful aquamarine waters, white pristine sand, ocean breezes...Just what the "doctor" ordered for this mature hardworking couple. No schedules, no noise except the waves, great snorkling just out the front door, and a great staff to meet your every need. Wish we had had a chance to get to know Haidee and Porter, as they were coming home as we were departing, maybe next time, and there will definitely be a next time.

Room Tip: There is no bad suite, all had their own walkway, entrance, and porch (shared but private). Restura...

My boyfriend and I visited Salt Cay in December 2012 for a romantic getaway.

We stayed in Castaways for less than a week and had such a wonderful time on the island. We fell in love with our little beach cottage immediately. The porch is great for breakfast and reading. The beach is just a few steps away and you practically have it all to yourself. I highly recommend going for a walk on the beach at night; with the sound of the waves crashing and the stars shining bright - the dramatic setting is truly breathtaking.

Haidee picked us up at the airport and drove us around the island for a quick tour. Then she dropped us off at our cottage, set us up with our beach cruiser bikes, and let us loose! It was fun riding our bikes everywhere, we felt like a couple of kids again =)

Whenever we needed anything, all we had to do was visit Haidee and Porter down at Island Thyme and they'd help us out.

Thank you to Haidee, Porter, the staff at Castaway, and the staff at Island Thyme for making our first trip to Salt Cay memorable. We'll be back!
