“Good place to stay on the West Highland Way”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

Stayed a night here when walking the WHW, following the grind acropss Rannoch Moor. My single room and the adjoining shared bathroom was quite basic but comfortable . The place has a certain charm engendered by not being over-fancy, good food (the Rob Roy bar at the back is a good place for walkers etc to hang out with good beer and robust fare to fuel you up for the next day), and a phenomenal range of whiskies (listed on an extensive list with tasting notes). Lovely position and preferable to staying in Glencoe from what I saw. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Don't stay here if you are used to (and expecting) all mod cons. The midges seem to hang out just by the main entrance waiting to get their breakfast when you leave!

We stayed here on our fifth night while walking the West Highland Way. I have to agree with many of the other reviews on this hotel – it is superb. We received a friendly, warm welcome. The bar had a good atmosphere and had a good selection of real ales. There was a wide selection on the menu and our meals were excellent.

This will likely not be the most up-market hotel you will ever stay in. The décor is starting to look tired, the central heating and plumbing are clearly out-dated. It needs a lot of money spent to bring it up to modern standards. But don’t let any of that put you off; the Kings House Hotel has charm and any major refurbishment would not add to the character.

Room Tip: Room 11 has superb views.

Recently stayed at the Kings House Hotel with friends to celebrate a 40th Birthday. We arrived at about 2.00pm and our rooms were ready. The rooms are small, med, large and comfortable but beware not all are en suite. The rooms do not have TV / radio but the Hotel has Wi Fi so take a Tablet / Lap top if you are a TV junkie. The food is good pub grub (with added bonus of duck, haggis etc.) and the atmosphere in the bar is welcoming and cheerful. The only slight downside was the weather – we just started drinking earlier! The staff are all very welcoming and helpful - on hearing that our friend was 40 they set up a long table for us to have dinner at – and were very pleased when one of our party took it upon themselves to be our waiter and took the order for them. This place is wee hidden gem for both walkers and non-walkers. The dog came too and had a ball being right on the moors and West Highland Way even though it rained.

Room Tip: 18 large twin - 20 smaller double

I visited the hotel a few months ago when I was out for a day and can say I was very inpressed . So Thursday of this week I replayed a visit and stayed in room 11 . Immediately upon entering We were Greeted by a member of staff( name not known) . The greeting was warm and very courteous , The member of staff was very helpful in Every way As we had booked into the wrong Kingshouse Hotel(She actually phoned the hotel that we had booked into and cancelled for us) . Each time we entered the bar area we were greeted warmly by all members of staff especially this particular member I'm talking about. This member of staff had family also working at the Hotel Which turned out to be her younger daughter Who was working part time after-school Her daughter was equally as warm and Courteous In every way Always very polite. The room was very comfortable the Hotel in general was very warm and inviting. The food was exceptional This hotel is in my Opinion worth five stars it is in a Remote place in a beautiful setting. I highly recommend a visit

Visited The Kings House Hotel in September 2012 during our 1,800 mile trip around Scotland. In fact we visited it twice, once on the way North & because we love it so much, again once on the way South. The setting is wonderful anytime of the year, the atmosphere there is relaxed and welcoming. We would have liked to have parked out motorhome there overnight, but suspect that as it is a 'Hotel' that this might have been slightly frowned upon, so sought a 'Wild Camping' location close by and stayed the night there later that day. Had coffee served in the lounge and relaxed then ventured outside where my wife and I were able to interact with the 'Hotel Friendly' semi-resident deer. If you find yourself snow-bound here, then there are very few other places that you'd rather be snow-bound in, simply go here and you'll think you're in heaven.....

Room Tip: Simply ask for one with a good view, but not immediately above the main bar if you are a light sleep...

This place is set in a beautiful and picturesque location, and has such a warm and cosy atmosphere. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had a delicious and well priced meal at the bar. Wifi dropped out at times, and was generally better when sitting right next to the hot spot. Rooms a little bit small, but with such beautiful views and reasonable prices, there were no complaints from us!

I have stayed at the Kings House Hotel many times over the years, always walking in and walking out. Sometimes I have slept the previous night in a bothy or a tent. Whichever way you approach when walking (from Bridge of Orchy, from Glencoe or from Rannoch Moor), the Hotel looks really welcoming in its splendid isolated setting.

This was the first time that I had stayed with my whole family and so things that I now take foregranted were brought back to life: such as the deer that gather around the building at night to feed, or the fantastic and dramatic views of Buachaille Etive Mòr (a nearby mountain). Sure the rooms are pretty average, but the beds are really comfortable and not having TV is a real advantage...... my sons agreed that it was lovely to have a break from it.

You get what you pay for. This is a traditional Hotel for outdoor people who appreciate the benefit of a good night indoors. The food is really good and the service genuine and friendly. There is nothing plastic or affected in the decor, which all adds to a warm and homely feel. One of the highlights of every stay is sinking down into a hot bath on the first night, water stained slightly brown due to its peaty source..... even the water is genuine!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of Buachaille Etive Mòr (if you can pronounce it.......)
