“A charming tea room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

I had never been here for nearly 20 years as last time the attitude to my young child was very poor and lacked a welcoming approach . However there was no sign of that a loof approach as we were served by cheerful attentive staff . In that time ownership could have changed and to the better . The 3 of us had lovely coffee s , snacks and yummy cake infront of a real fire ,welcome in this recent freezing weather. The soup of day was very tasty mixed vegetable with large bun by its side . Baked potato with tuns mayonnaise got a 8/10 rating as did my ham/cheese pannini and victoria sponge. However the 9/10 was reserved for my excellent carrot cake. Definately worth a repeat visit.

Room Tip: only a tea room review

Stayed here on 29th/30th December in the Laurel Room which is big, immaculate, modern, has a very comfortable bed and overlooks the garden. Breakfast had a good choice served in front of a real fire (nice because the weather was cold and windy). I was very impressed with this hotel - especially because of the "service with a smile".

Room Tip: Laurel was on the first floor. It was big with a seating area which overlooked the garden and was v...

We stayed here for the night after attending a birthday party. We were originally booked into a family room (myself, wife and 12 & 13 year old sons) but due to a cancellation, we were given 2 seperate rooms, a double and a twin at no extra cost. Both rooms were comfortable and well furnished with en-suite shower and toilet. There was also a kettle and a good supply of tea bags/ coffee/ hot chocolate etc. There were also complimentry biscuits. The bed was probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in!
After an excellent nights sleep we went for breakfast where you could help yourself to cereals fruit juices, yoghurt, grapefruit etc before choosing from full english, continental, vegetarian, egg on toast etc, I chose the full english with scrambled egg, sausage, bacon, black pudding, tomato, mushrooms and beans, which arrived quickly and was delicious. The dining room also doubles as a tea room during the day and has a real fire which gives it a cozy atmosphere.
All in all, we had a comfortable, relaxing stay, in fact the kids asked if we could stay for another night. I look forward to my next visit.

We stayed here for one night before attending a wedding. There was a friendly welcome and the room was immaculate, the staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The Collingwood Room has a balcony with lovely views out across the River Tyne and even though the weather wasn't ideal whilst we were there it was lovely to watch the sunrise, I can imagine it would be fantastic in the summer (if we ever get one!). The breakfast was excellent, good hearty portions! Location is really convenient for access to Newcastle city centre using the metro which is only a 10 minute walk away and the sea front is 2 minutes away. Don't make the mistake we did and pay for parking, you can buy parking permits from the B&B at a bargain rate!!

Overall, I would definietly recommend this B&B, considering the high standards I think it is excellent value.

I stayed here with my bf for 1 night last week and we were so pleased to receive such a warm welcome in our very comfortable room. Also the breakfast was served in a nice room near the garden. Our room looks on the villange, pretty nice in a sunny and cold morning. Romantic place for a couple also! Recommended.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night in October after visiting our daughter at Northumberland University in Newcastle. We were so pleased to be able to park right outside and to receive such a warm welcome from Barbara, the duty manager, as the weather had turned very cold. Our room was very spacious and beautifully decorated - boutique standard! Diane, the proprietor, was also very welcoming in the comfortable guest lounge and made us a dinner reservation at Trattoria Della Stazione located at the metro station in the stunning Victorian buildings - the food was excellent. The bedroom was very peaceful during night and we were able to look at the view of the sea from our balcony in the morning. Breakfast was served in the tea room overlooking the garden - it was very tasty and served by a delightful young lady.
We would not hesitate to stay at No 61 again.

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautifully decorated but a sea view is special.

A fantastic welcome. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. The setting was perfect for a quick break! Breakfast was served promptly and in a friendly manner. A tea garden at the rear of the guest house was a perfect location to relax.
