“Perfect Wedding Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2009

We got married here last week. It is a tiny 'boughi' (hamlet) situated on a hill in the Tiber Valley, with amazing panaramic views. It is beautifully well preserved and has very few tourists and you can not see it from the main highway, the E45.
I believe that last year it was nominated as one of the most beautiful Boughi in Italy, and if you visit you will see why.
If you are here, we know some very good caterers, Judith and Jeff, who live in Montone and do private dining experiences, tasting and cookery classes. Have a look at their website www.aromacucina.com. Judith runs a food blog which is really interesting. They catered for our wedding and did an absolutely amazing job, it was the best food we had throughout our two week trip to Italy. They are also lovely people!
I can also highly recommend Il Convento Mincione for the accomodation. We hired out the whole place for our family and we had the best week of our lives. Joan, the owner could not have been more accommodating.

“Montone, one of the most suggestive villages in Umbria”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2008

For the ones who do not have an idea about what Montone is...well, it's a delightful village located on a green hill within the northern region of Umbria, that is well-known as "Alta Valle del Tevere" and "Valley Museum" for its huge heritage.

We stayed at Villa Pavone: http://www.summerinitaly.com/eng/rent/property0476!italy_.htm

The lush landscape and the fresh and healthy air are the worthy setting of this ancient village. Montone is a representative idea of a perfectly preserved and unchanged medieval village.

The village is walled, and its ancient walls show also a narrow and winding labyrinth. We walked through a succession of unforgettable pictures, under overlapping arches, and admired light and shade effects that open onto squares and amazing gardens.

We spent wonderful relaxing moments, in harness with nature.

There is a variety of cultural activities and folkloristic events of great appeal: for example we attended the famous evocation of the " Donazione della Santa Spina” in March, but we've been told that something very suggestive is the show of “Old Masters Moulders”, or the “Wood Party”, or “Umbria film festival” and many others…

We visited the Art Gallery of St. Francesco (Pinacoteca comunale di San Francesco), the Ethnographic Museum "Tamburi battenti", and the Astronomical Observatory of Coloti.
